Hi all just wondering is there a cheaper alternative to cleaning and sanitising our toilet canister. Other than the expensive chemicals that are recommended. We are using the the little bombs and the thetford cleaning liquids. Any suggestion would be great. Cheers Louise

I have heard that people use the Homebrand Napisan.
My MH has a much larger blackwater tank so I use the Enzyme Pellets from Coles or Woolworth. The occasional can of Coke goes in too, I'm told the sugars help the Enzymes to digest the "Stuff" Works well for my system, Not sure if it would work in a cassette Toilet though.

Can I suggest that you pose some words (eg Toilet chemicals, etc) of your query into the "Search" tab? There you will find more than one answer. I was looking a couple of days ago & there are pages!
All the best in looking at & enjoying the forum. I always look (Search) first & if I can't find an answer, then I pose a question to the experts. Like all forums, you'll find a mix of people with differing experiences.
To put it bluntly, this forum has saved me a "bucket of money", given me many ideas on how to fix an issue & enabled us to meet other people who share similar experiences.

The cheapest generic brands of nappy soaker (sodium percarbonate) is the most effective and economical treatment.
Use 1 level teaspoon per #2 added dry direct to the toilet at each use. Using more is not better.
Alternatively, installing an "SOG" (which is a fan that sucks air in through the bowl, through a carbon filter and then to the outside) will eliminate the need to use any chemicals at all.

Welcome to the gang Louise, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I have tried the cheap nappy soaker stuff as mentioned above but find for some reason it doesn't do the job I expected so now use Thetford Blue Sachets if I know I can empty in a place that is ok for these to be used. If not safe then I use the Thetford Green Liquid as I don't like the sachets in the green one. I put about 2 lts of water in the canister then put the sachet in and give it a shake about 15 mins later then put canister back where it lives.
To clean the toilet bowl etc I use disinfectant wipes and chuck 'em in the rubbish. I also give the canister a good wipe over with the wipes when I empty it and spray a little bit of Olive oil around the rubber seals and anything that moves.
I also take the top section off the canister and give a real good clean out twice a year and lubricate any moving parts inside.
No one has ever complained. Mmmm, I'm solo, maybe that's why.
All works as I want, for me anyway.

I started off with the no name nappy soaker and after a while the toilet starts to smell. After complaints by SWMBO, I bought the sachets. I subscribe to a number of online sellers (RV express, camec etc) and often they sell the sachets for a very good price. Also Ebay can be your friend. Like Dougwe I use a bit of olive oil spray (coles brand) to lubricate the rubber seals etc.

Welcome Louise. Probably depends on how often you're travelling. We're away a few times each year, and although the nappisan option saves a bit, it's not that much. We've reverted back to Thetford Blue and buy it discounted whenever Anaconda has a storewide 20% off sale a couple of times per year. About 50% of the recommended 'dose' is really all you need to use. Much easier than messing around with the other stuff and smells fresher. If we lived on the road, it may be a different proposition....

we have used Pine O Clean Eucalyptus hospital grade disinfectant for 11 years,,, works well.
However in hot weather need to empty urine every 3 days at least.
Use about 30mm from bottle about a litre of water and tip tank on all sides/ends to coat internal surface.
Note the cheaper woolies stuff has nowhere near the odour masking effect.
Cheep as.
