Hi. Has anyone taken out Catholic Insurance? I have a homemade caravan that has been insured through CIL for 6 years. The premiums have always been high, but coverage on a homemade van is almost non existent except for CIL. I have never made an insurance claim in 50 years, but my premium has been increased by 25% this year
. I have stumbled onto Catholic Personal Insurance underwritten by Alliance, who will cover my van with a premium slightly less that half that of CIL. Reading the PDS. the cover appears brilliant. Maybe too good to be true. Does anybody have knowledge of Catholic Insurance? Thank you.

Hi Llib Nosrebor
Do you have a link to the PDS please, as I can not seem to find it
It looks like the old Pope, has been keeping this one under wraps

Like most insurance company they jack up the price every year. I do the ring around every year. Sometimes you can ring them and negotiate a better price. But don't put up with the lazy tax. They are just thieves.

Comment from oldbloke - you say that Insurance Companies are thieves so why do you pay your premiums to them? Why are you phoning around for a lesser thief? Why don't you carry the risk yourself if these companies are thieves? If you have an accident or have your van stolen, then you don't have to deal with these thieves - after your comments, it would make sense to me or is this just another rant from a whinger.

we have found down hrough the years the QBE offers us the best deal. Mind you we have all our possessions insured thru QBE, so could be one reason.

I have had a look and I do not see many problems with it, except that there are no prices given on the website, and their "GET YOU HOME" amount of $750 is a bit less than others
As they do not cover motorhomes, then I have not bothered to do any due diligence
Thanks for your post Lilib Nosrebor, we now know that there is another insurer out there

Simple, they charge as much as possible and do their best to dodge paying when they should. Or provide substandard service. Like everyone else I manage my risk that's the only reason I deal with them. When a well know van insurer in one year jacks fees up 10% and van valuation down about the same and I've never made a claim you gotta ask the question. Do you think they give a rats about the customer?
They remind me of AMP, charge for no service.
I guess you always pay what they ask and don't show around?
I guess you don't complain when they hit you with the lazy tax?

I have found CIL great to deal with. They may not be the cheapest but they offer agreed price and not the questionable 'market value' cover as defined by them. Saving a few dollars each year on premiums may sound economical but when you loose a few thousand dollars under the 'market value' when you make a claim it is not that economical after all.

Oldbloke - unfortunately you just don't get it! We all manage our risk, but I am saying to you - why don't you carry your own risk. That way you don't have to pay your premium to the "thieves". When you have an accident, you pay your own costs & then you don't have to put up with your so called "sub-standard" service from the "thieves". You don't have to worry about premiums, van valuations etc.etc. If you are not prepared to carry your own risk, then just pay the premium with your thief of choice - and that is the point "you have the choice to make the decision". No Insurer is pestering you to insure your van - your choice.

Common courtesy and respect for other members of the forum go a long way to making our forum the success that it is, calling other members derogatory names is just not acceptable, we all need to treat others as we would like to be treated.
There are no wingers on this forum just some people expressing an opinion that may be different to yours which they are most welcome to do.

Gday...
I, as do the majority of people on this forum, agree that we should always provide common courtesy and respect to other forum members.
However, there is a difference between having an opinion and being opinionated ....
opinion 1. judgement or belief not founded on certainty or proof 2. the prevailing or popular feeling or view 3. evaluation, impression, or estimation of the value or worth of a person or thing
opinionated Holding stubbornly and often unreasonably to one's own opinions
