i am confused. Gvm over 4.5 tonne at chinderah nsw. That would be nearly all cars with caravans. So, r they saying we all need to pull in? If thats the case, the place would b clogged up. or if signage says over 4.5 tonne pull in, does that mean us towing caravans.

GVM is weight of loaded car,GCM is weight of car and van.......VERY simplified explanation, before all the pedants start on about mass etc.Safe and happy travels to all. Cheers

Simply put, if you can drive your vehicle on a car license you are under 4.5t GVM.
If a truck license, LR, HR etc license required then you are over.

I read the article and I am also a bit confused
They mention four tonnes Snip There are nine Heavy Vehicle Safety Stations (HVSS) In New South Wales, with six of them requiring vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of over eight tonnes to enter, and three requiring vehicles with a GVM of greater than four tonnes to enter.
They then mention 4.5 tonnes Snip The Roads and Maritime Services says all heavy vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than eight tonnes are required to enter a HVSS (except Chinderah, Pine Creek and Halfway Creek - 4.5 tonnes).
Can anyone clarify as I had assume that any vehicle less than four and a half tonnes, can be driven on a normal car licence, and is not classified as a heavy vehicle

story says former truck driver in an 8.7t motorhome . he should have known better and deserved the fine. ignorance is no excuse, you as the driver need to know the rules you are obliged to comply with.

Yes I have missed a few . You get waved on when they see itâs a motorhome . Well ? In 7 years going to Bathurst / Central coast. Always waved on . I guess they know we are way under GVM .?? The 4.5 possibly caught him out . Itâs often higher .. Yes we should know .
