We bought a new washing machine ,front loader ,had it for 6 month now. What a pice of (.....)disaster.
The wife was told by many that the frontloaders are the bees knees .
Well I know better , I did not know that that Pice of .... could only be connected to cold water. I got 200L of hot water sitting 5m away. ( it gets heated up with elect.)
The we bought a stand ,because it was to low ,I insisted .
The bloddy thing does not spin the washing well enough .
For a some time now, I have noticed a smell , yes I get the smell from about 50 residends down the road coming up from the drain pipe up in to the house.( love it )
Got the Plumber in , he told me that some of the new washers got a very strong pump , they push the water out of the s bend (Rippa).
He told us to tip a bid of water down the sink and that will stop it.( good idea ,I will stand there and wait for the pump to empty the water out of the machine.)
OK , those machines were not made for Australia ,they were made for Europe ,most places over there don't have a laundry ,so they shove the machine under the bench with the dishwasher. Looks good , but useless for most houses here in OZ.
Well I feel better now !!

Yo Hans . 1 ..As a plumber I have,nt connected a W/M to hot water in maybe 12 yrs ,not needed with todays detergents.
2 You stood in front of it at the shop and "wow 'you have to bend down to load it !
3 If the drain smells it aint the W/M fault .A separate problem to deal with .
4 The machines are not prejudiced against any nationality they work the same for everybody .
5 Sometimes when I got to a client the fact that they were trying to spin dry 3 blankets at once may give the poor thing a bit of fatigue !
However the fact that you feel better is all that matters mate is good. Cause sometimes one has to vent ones spleen to make things all more betterer ,works for me too ! anyhow mate ,I hope it all comes good for you . Cheers.

Some of us have older machines, they use hot water from the solar HWS (free) rather than paying to heat the water. Makes a lot of sense to me.
That said, the research obviously went AWOL, if the OP had so many things "wrong" with the new beastie!
Drain smells are easy to fix, put the W/M outlet through an airlock loop (ie make the machine push the water up and over a high point) and drain through the bypass in the tub, instead of through the connection to the s-bend.

Everyone likes different things, that's what makes the world go round. I've had a front load washer for years. I only ever wash in cold water. I wouldn't go back to a top loader unless it's a nice twin tub. Come to think of it - have never had a conventional top loader. Before marriage twin tub at home, when first married a ringer washer that hubby had, then back to twin tubs, then front loaders. Sorry you are having problems.

20 odd years ago we were living in south africa and the company I worked for supplied us with a front loader that was set underneath our kitchen benches. The first time that my wife did the washing it practically demolished all the cupboards - they had forgotten to remove the packing screws that apparently stop the drum from moving when the machine is shipped.

Front loader ? What's a bull-dozer got to do with washing? Unless you doze a trench to do the washing in. And why would you have hot water 5 miles away? And you've got to spin the machine, not have the machine spin the clothes ! No wonder he's all mixed up. All that sneaking around Europe looking for laundries must have done it! Just shows how wary you need to be of ranters and ravers.

Hi Recoup, your not on your own with your opinion of new washing machines. I have a new LG washing machine bought for me as a gift from my mother, I'll get back to that shortly. I also have a POPE wringer washing machinine from the 60's it was my grandmothers and well looked after, she had a boarding house so you can imagine all the work that old machine did, Grandma passed away in 1984 and for sentimental reasons I have had the machine since. Sometimes I use it just so it doesn't sit idly and seize up, as its good for the parts to get a workout. Compared to machines of today the tub is so huge you can do all the whites at one time and the big centre agitator works effortlessly, then I would lift the clothes up manualy out of the water and place the item between the top and bottom rubber rollers,where they do an excellent job of wringing and then the clothing would drop into the rinse water, then I would lift the clothing out the rinse water and back between the rollers lol, then out to the clothes line where the pegs would come out. No sign of wear and tear on the clothes either. My Wilkins Service Twin Tub purchased in 1970 is on the farm and still going strong. In 1986 lol I bought a new Simpson Gemini auto washing machine with centre agitator, worked perfectly until Christmas 2017and still looked brand new as I do look after things well. Now I have a new LG washing machine, a christmas present from my mother. It is entertainment plus for the eyes and the ears, it whistles and beeps at diff cycles, lights flash, water sprays from the top and sides, it shimmies like a belly dancer while filling until it reaches correct water level for the washing cycle. Finally the wash cycle begins. It has a glass window in the lift up top lid, There is no centre agitator (BIG mistake) before I knew it the clothes were showing signs of wear and tear, towels that were in perfect condition were starting to show almost threadbare patches here and there, clothes pulled out of shape badly, I so regret the loss of my Simpson. Machines without a centre agitator are destructive because when they spin they pull the clothing right across the tub as its spinning causing stretching and pulling of the weave in the fabric. Its a lovely looking machine on the outside, but whats going on in the inside is disgusting. You say your machine has a peculiar smell, my LG machine has no smell but I think it sure stinks in every other way lol......regards Kisha.

OK all , I put this rant on for more like a joke, but l put in a few extras because I don't think a frontloader is that good like a lot of people think.
I stood in front of the machine at HN , and all the machines where on a kind of a base , so I told my wife that she will have to buy a base to ,otherwise she would have to get some knee pads.
Anyway ,the smell got up my nose ,and believe me it made me sick.

We had a Fisher Paykel which was a fantastic machine for over 6 years until it suddenly stopped. We called a technician who said that the electronic card needed replacing and even if he could get one from that era it would cost us around $500 to fix. We replaced it with a top of the line Simpson which made so much noise we actually called their service guy who made some adjustments but said it was pretty normal. We bit the bullet and gave the Simpson to my son we then took the risk of buying another Fisher Paykel. Kisha I can,t say that we have really noticed any difference in the life of the items washed in a machine without a large agitator but I could be wrong as we havent actually had one for quite a few years to compare results with.

For people with front loading washing machines that would like to use hot water, simply swap the cold water hose for the hot water hose. Then the machine runs on hot water all the time - we do this when we have excess solar hot water and it does make the towels softer.

SWMBO is always trying things to get soft towels from our front loader. The only thing that works is to put them in the drier rather than pegging on the line.
