For those thinking about buying clear view mirrors for their tug, I suggest buying the black ones rather than the dressier chrome.
Those that already have a chrome set put a strip of black tape along the top bar on each side.
That will stop the sun from reflecting into your eyes like mine does!

I have the black ones for similar reason but also looks better on my red Collie. I keep them clean with ArmorAll, works a treat.

Had mine for 3 years; "chrome Ones" and have not experienced the problem that you mentioned.
Love them.

Hi Hethro,
Have had mine for 2 years, previously used the ratchet strap-on type of mirrors. Anyway, every so often while driving along with the sun in the right (wrong?) position I would get a flash into my eyes. On a long straight stretch of road it tended to get annoying.
Perhaps I sit lower than you and the angle of the reflection doesn't hit your eyes?
Anyway, I am sure I am not the only one who gets the occasional flash off the bars.

Hi all you Clearview people,
There is nothing worse than seeing your mirrors extended when not towing, eg, carparks, shopping centres, you cannot move between your car and the one beside you,
It also looks stupid driving down the road with them extended and is most likely illegal so don't be a wanker and slide them back when not needed.

Hi Murray,
I also had the sun reflecting off my chrome Clearview mirrors and overcome it by using grey tape over the offending areas.
I also had a problem with a blind spot on multiple lane freeways when cars are just about to overtake my vehicle.
I added a small dot mirror which overcome the problem.
I also had another blind spot when small cars travel close to the back of the van & seem to come out of nowhere.
I overcome this by adding a rear camera.
I've found the Clearview mirrors to be great.
Cheers John.

Hi John,
Sorry for not replying sooner.
I applied the black tape in the same position as the grey tape on your mirror arms. I guess any of the dark colours - blue, red, green, brown - would do the same job of stopping the sun bouncing off into our eyes.
I haven't put one of the convex mirrors on but have been thinking of it for a couple of months. Guess I'll accelerate my thinking now. But I am leaning to fixing it on the outer bottom of the large mirrors rather than the small one.
You are more organised with the camera on the back of the van - maybe I'll get one of those one day.
So far I have towed our van over two thousand kilometres as well as solo driving around our town, on the open highway and through Melbourne using the clear views. (Towing a van along Melbourne's Western Ring Road is an eye opener - it is the only road that really frightens me.)

We had chrome ones on our Pajero for 5 years and have had chrome ones on our Landcruiser for 2 years, and have never had a problem with sun reflection. Must only be an issue with certain cars or maybe its just luck as to the drivers height or something.

Perhaps it is a feature of the southern regions.
Many years ago I was transferred from Darwin to Melbourne after four years in the Top End. It took several months before I got used to the sun in my eyes morning and afternoon - which seemed to be in almost any direction I was travelling.

Pull the mirror out when towing and that area becomes black. No problem with chrome on the LC 200.

Yes I agree. I had the same problem and has to put tape on the top to stop the reflection.
