We recently stored our 6mt long mesh security shade under the caravan while at Uluru campground. During the night it flooded so the folded screen was under water. We've found it very difficult to get the red dirt stain out of it, unfortunately it's stained on some of the folded squares and not others so now it looks like a patchwork of dirty and clean squares. We've tried to clean it but no success. Can anyone suggest a way of getting the red stain out of it?

I found it easy to remove. Maybe the surface I have wasnât too porous ? We used a little percarbonate of sofa , Nappy SAN . It may bleach a little ??

Annie, The "Red Dirt Stain" is the iron oxide in the outback soils - You will never be able to remove it - Just learn to regard it as a badge of Australiana.

Sorry Graeme and myself typing at same time - Problem with bleach etc they tend to degrade the strength of the fibres that are woven into the synthetic screen material/s and if there is a colour dyed into screen then it will be bleached out in patches.

My experience is the only way to get a clean screen is buy a new one, that is if you really need a clean one. Does it come under your insurance?

Having lived for years in the Pilbara, we found that the best thing for removing it was sards wonder soap or something similar and knuckles. Perhaps with an item like that, you could apply it with a scrubbing brush.

Use a few cans of spray paint and make a work of art. Paint a picture, a geometric design or a rainbow. It will be unique.
