Doug, I think you're being a bit tough. There's heaps of tread left but the bands may need renewing after some time. Repairer could've used a bit of "Shoe-Glue" to held tread adhere.

Many many years ago it was standard practice for us to insert sleeves in our tyres when the tubes started to show through the smooth tread.
We was just poor apprentices who often had to push our old bangers into the servo to put in 10 bob's worth of petrol.
So what's so wrong with this?
BTW ... we used to pack out our noisy big ends with lacquered brown paper under the slippers & then next time with metal from tin cans & then scrape out the oil channels. I had a box full of 'spare' old engine parts from my Vanguard, that was regularly used by my mates to get replacement rings etc. We were poor & desperate.

As a woman I only need two tools, if it doesn't move but it should, use the hammer. And if it does move but it shouldn't, use the duct tape
