Hello folks, I have a 1981 Viscount pop-top that I've inherited from my parents. It's an oldy but a goody, some people say if there was ever a world ending event, they'd come to my caravan because it's survived 2 trips around Australia, my son living in it for 9 months, my sister living in it for 3 years, survived the New Years bush fire in Midland, W.A. where the fire splint, went around the caravan joined up again on the other side and destroyed several other caravans...
I've recently retired myself and have taken several small trips down the south/west of W.A. I noticed on my last return a small split in the metal around the vent of the fridge. There also appears to be slightly bowed out on that side too. Anyone experienced anything like this please? Possible cause??? Solution??? Hope you can help, thanks very much - Peter (diveshak).

Your caravan is beginning to suffer from fatigue, probably metal fatigue. For your safety, it may be time to say goodbye.

Take it into PDA caravans on Maddington road and let them check it out they are qualified to diagnose any problems and offer advice on how to fix it i doubt any one could offer you any helpful advice with out at least having a look at it

I had an older Viscount pop top.
When I removed the fridge to try and find out what was wrong, I noticed that the plywood dividing the fridge from the sink area, had expanded and split.
I assume that the expansion was due to water ingress, before I purchased the caravan
As boab has already said, it is hard to diagnose something without actually looking at it.
If you are a handyman, (or have a handyman type friend), you will be able to remove the fridge vent, and look from the back, without removing the fridge
My guess, and it is only a guess, is that water had got in, and some of the wood has expanded

Is this an UltraLite van with the AlKo European style chassis? They need to be looked at by someone experienced in them.
