Sitting on the beachfront in Albany tonight with strong winds and heavy rains. Days like this I wind up the awning, but Im curious if anyone is also in the habit of winding down the tv antenna.

Interesting question. I've seen quite a few wrecked van awnings, tents and those sun shade gazebo thingys but never a bent tv antenna. I put mine down during lighting but so far no damage from wind.

I wind my down in strong winds, as the weakest point for me is the roof
I have a 2006 Jayco Conquest

I have a jack antenna so is low enough hopefully to not cause a problem in that situation. If I had a different antenna I would wind it down for sure.
My biggest worry is hail stones damaging solar panels Another subject though I spose.
We have just had warnings of damaging weather heading this way.

I wind mine down only where it is flapping in the wind making an annoying noise. Usually when we settle down to sleep.
Perhaps I should be more concerned about the stresses on the mountings & roof in general. But it has lasted for 20 years without damage so perhaps I won't worry. SWMBO likes her TV so that will be the deciding factor.

I have a Saturn antenna on a Winegard Crank up Base.
I was in Burrum Heads near Hervey Bay in 2011. It was the aftermath of Ex Tropical Cyclone Yasi. 3:30am there was a Tornado came through the Caravan Park. Aftermath looked like those photos you see from the States when a tornado hits a trailer parks.
It was quick, all over in ten mins and the antenna was up and still in one piece. Nowadays I don't bother winding down the thing. Stood up to a Tornado so all good.

I wind mine down if it's not needed and only really use it to watch local tv news etc. Otherwise I usually have my portable sateliite setup to watch and record programs.
