I just returned from the Cranbourne RSL dawn service which had quite a large gathering. The Cranbourne Lions Club, of which I am a part, do the BBQ every year which is our largest one. Later we will be attending the 10:45 service in Cranbourne to lay a wreath at the cenotaph.
They shall grow not old as we who are left grow old
I find it difficult to resolve the intent and purpose of day of Respect and rememberance with exhortations to have a Happy ANZAC day.
I have a photo of my father burying mates on the Kokoda Track; never saw him happy on ANZAC day.

I agree with you Iza, I held back yesterday as it is a day of Remembrance Sacrifice and Honouring our departed. It was not considered well by the poster.

I went along to the Anzac Day Dawn Service, a very special day of rememberance. Although their was great sadness, it was and will also be seen as a happy time in celebration of their sacrifice and loyalty to their Nation. Lest We Forget.....Kisha

My view is that ANZAC is truly Australia's greatest day for remembrance.
I respect it more than Christmas New Year and Easter.
Everywhere one travels the ANZAC monuments hold pride of place in all the regional towns and major cities.
They will not grow old, as I have grown old paying respect to the young men and women who gave us this great country that we have today.
Sure we have issues, but it is still a great country

Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
Lest we forget
