I am considering purchasing a new ISUZU D-MAX to tow my 2700kg JAYCO Sterling Caravan. Does anybody care to share their experiences of towing a van of this size with the D-MAX? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Jack, I have a 2011 D Max and tow a 2011 Crusader Inspiration which weighs in at 2840kg. I have towed the van over 30,000k's around Aus. without any problems at all! Been to Queensland twice, Darwin - West Coast and several shorter trips over various terrain but mainly black top. The combination is extremely stable on the road. Would not hesitate to buy another D Max in the future. I believe a new model may be on the horizon in coming months, but not 100% sure.

Hi Jack
My cousin had a 2010 D-Max and towed a Jayco around the 3 ton range to Burketown every year for the past five. Never had a problem and let me tell you it was loaded to the max!
He has just upgraded to a 2018 modle and is very very happy.
I myself have a 2011 D-Max and tow a 1992 17 foot Roadstar. Dont even know i'm hitched up, get around 9 to 10 per 100klm, much better than the old Nissan around 18 to 20.
Would'nt swap the D-Max for anything.

We tow our 2016 21', 3000kg Silverline with our MY17 D-Max auto. Bought in Oct/November last year, it now has 15000 odd km on it, about 9000 of that with the van on earlier this year from Perth - Bathurst - Lakes Entrance & home via Port Lincoln over 2 months.
Couldn't fault the car, the only thing I did to help it was to fit a transmission cooler as we were going to mountain country in mid summer.
I had fitted a scangauge to monitor coolant & auto temps but I needn't have bothered.
We averaged 14 - 15 L/100km for the trip.
Cheers Neil

We were considering updating our waggon to a Isuzu mux,but the model been around a few years now ,so I think it might be in for a model change, anyway just curious is there any advantage in buying the Ute version over the wagon..

We have a 2016 Isuzu Mux and pull a 24' Jayco Sterling van. Weight around 2800kg. Picked up the van in Wollongong and returned to Perth.
Have done the trip Perth to Adelaide last year. No problems at all with an average fuel return of 13.7 litres per 100. just backed it off a little.
No complaints.
Worked hard coming out of Wollongong up some of the large long hills but just backed it off a little so as not to strain anything.
Happy travels
Dave

HI,
Have a 2012 manual Dmax and 21 ft van, very happy overall, returns about 14 ltrs per 100 kms on average traveling at 90 to 105 kmph mostly on country roads. I had a 2009 model previously and was happy with that as well.
I had a hairy situation to deal with on a return trip from Esperence to Bunbury last week towing the van and the Dmax behaved extremely well given the circumstances.
There is a small update MY18 model coming out in May....not much changes just a few colours deleted and a few added and trailer sway assist.
All the dual cabs are good these days but hard to go past the Isuzu for basic reliability in my mind.
Cheers AL
