I am soon to have a rebore of the water works. Prostate enlargement - no signs of naughty stuff there as yet, just an enlarged prostate. The procedure will be done with a laser, so I imagine it will sear and seal as it goes through the affected areas. We are trying to organise future activities as much as possible and I was wondering if anyone here has had the procedure done and if so, how long was hospitalisation and ultimate recovery?

G'day erad - I don't envy you the procedure - a lot of the surgery they do nowadays is so much easier with modern technology.
You'll swing through it, and someone will come along and have a chat or have some pearls of wisdom for you.

Hi there. Had the op 9 weeks ago. In hospital for two nights. A bit uncomfortable for a couple of days. No dribbling after 16 days. You get a bit of urgency to go but that eases . all good now and a stream like a 21 year old. Recommend over doudart tablets. Pm me if u need to know more. Cheers. Daz

Certainly better than the old cut and shut, I've heard it said that the old way was an absolute blood bath for the surgeon, Lasers are probably one of the best things about modern surgeries.
Hope you're back on stream with no hiccups at the soonest possible time.
Take care,
Possum

Dazz49: Thanks for the info - that is exactly what I was looking for. I am concerned about discomfort etc, but at least I now know roughly how long I may be out of action. One complication is that my wife is having the last of her Chemo treatments the day before my surgery, so we will both likely be laid up for a while. There's always someone worse of than you so shut up and get on with it... Hopefully I won't be laid up too long. Surgery is on a Friday, so I expect that I will be in hospital over the weekend and thrown out on Monday

erad & dazz49,
Likely to be joining you. The urologist made an appointment for me to see him on the 30th. That was after lasering large bladder stone.

I 've had it done twice
The first time went good ,home 3rd day a bit painful passing urine for a few days
Then about , about 6years later had an extremely bad UTI , just over 2weeks in hospital ,extremely high fevers ,not responding to the usual anti biotics ,ended up with a highly restricted use one,[ had to go to a major hospital to have it & be monitored for reactions ]that got the infection under control in 4days
Talking about another reem out now ,& making it worse .I have CKD ,but since I am near 90, I really do not see much point in having it
But a further complication is I have a bladder problem ,due to the very severe Urinary infection, above , bladder has severe erosion & pockets which retain urine ,potentially bad for another infection
Have regular 6 monthly checkups by urology specialist , next due in July ,[ more blood tests, urine tests & ultrasounds,] so we'll see what happens,
But do not fool around , or try to put yours off.
