does anyone in qld. Know this answer. I have been looking on the net to find out how much a disability parking permit will cost in qld. For 5 years. there is a $17.05 application fee but how much is it for the 5 yr. permit. Thanks everyone,

Rocket these are getting harder to get need a very good reason to receive one What the doctor states make all the difference , The permit is for the person not bthe car and to use it the person who has the permit must be present to use the permit , My 83 year old sister missed out on the first application but receive one with a follow up letter from her doctor .

These permits can`t be to hard to get. I know a person who has one, they park in the disable park at a sports club and go and run around the tennis court playing tennis, WHAT A JOKE.

Just because they use one, does not mean they are the one to whom it has been granted.
My sister is a disability pensioner ... and has not been considered eligible as her 'disability' is not debilitating enough.
The permit is not that easy to obtain.

I know the person involved, and yes the person is the one who the permit was issued to.
Remember do not assume, as it will make an "ASS; out of "U' and "ME".

I am just going through this permit thing. Have had a Australian permit issued in WA for some time. We are moving to Qld but as I read the documentation I have to pay $17.50 to apply to get a Qld version of Australian permit and I have 2 weeks to do this. It then becomes interesting as I must have a letter from a Qld Dr that I have been seeing for at least 6 months.
Must be a Qld thing, 6 months is less than 2 weeks.
I give up. Drivers and vehicle licences have to be changed within 2 weeks also. Don't know how we will have time to unpack in that first 2 weeks or how long we have before we have to get a maroon jumper.

Why we don't have common laws throughout this country is beyond me (and everyone else as well I guess...) In NSW, you need the usual certification from your doctor and you have to pay from memory $43 for 5 years. NSW is always dearer than everyone else.
But it doesn't end there. There are different rules for using the permit in every state. Where and for how long you can park varies between each state. In Qld, there are even different classes of disability as well - those who require wheelchair etc, and those not so disabled. I have a NSW disabled permit, but I only use it when absolutely necessary. I have severe arthritis in my back and knees, but I also have a respiratory disorder. If I can manage not to park in a disabled area, I will, because there is always someone who is worse off than me, but when I do go elsewhere, I often see other drivers who are obviously nowhere near as disabled (if at all) using the spaces. Most of them are middle aged women and they are probably using their parent's card.
One other thing... Just because you see someone using a disabled space but they are not limping, doesn't mean that they are not disabled. They may have a heart or lung condition which limits the distance they can walk. I had a friend who had severe emphasemia. He was a heavy smoker before he got sick. Yet, to look at him you would never know he was crook. He died a horrible death - gasping for air all the tiime. Nowadays, I empathise with him, even though I have never smoked a fag in my life, yet I have troubles walking very far these days as well.

Raine has a disability parking permit due to a severe lung and back condition. The doctor filled out a form and it
was issued free of charge in NSW. Maybe because she is a pensioner, my thinking is if you need a disability permit chances are you would be a pensioner.
Even if we had to pay for one I would for her sake.
In a Perth suburban shopping centre car park today, I watched a tradie park his ute in a disabled bay. He was loaded with shovels, cement mixer, ladders and other assorted tools. If he can use all those, what the hell is he doing?
He also walked briskly towards the shops. The fine for misuse is $1000. Hope he got caught.

In NSW you can also get a temporary Disability permit for a period of 6 months ( no longer ) with a signed RMS form signed by your GP.
e.g Total Hip Replacement, knee replacement joint. Usually there will be info in the hospital advising this, well Private hospital at least, know this as a fact because wife that total hip replacement last week and got a permit today. Free to pensioner. Worst part is the wait at NSW Services as you have to have your photo taken and as usual the line up is a mile long.
Following this we pulled up in front of one of the local clubs for lunch and when we come out I pulled into the courtesy bus bay to pick up wife who is on crutches and low and behold here's a fat dude sitting in one of the disabled parking bays with no permit sticker displayed and the wife give it to him. Ignorant as he was he just turned up his radio a lot louder and wound his window up.
Couldn't turn around in a restricted area to get his rego number as there was traffic everywhere.
Next time will ring cops while sitting there and make sure whoever it hears us

IF, you are deemed permanently disabled then they will issue you with a new permit after the 5 years with no fees involved.
