Couldn't believe the article heading The Grey Nomad Times this week referring to the Peterborough, South Australia, RV park.
Coincidentally we stayed there a couple of nights ago, lots of bird life along with a resident mob of roo's.
It's a fee camp, not sure what people expect, a brass band to welcome them and free champagne perhaps, if you want to feel warm and gooey perhaps have a chat to your mum.
The sign referred to simply outlines the conditions of use, nothing onerous at all, even has an of leash facility alongside to exercise your dog.
Peterborough is a great little town, very friendly well cared for with plenty to see and do, particularly if you have an interest in steam trains.

Really what do people expect for zero dollar out lay while travelling..
We do like to camp where there is toilets, where we are welcome and safe for a couple of nights. We do try to leave the site with no trace of us being there.
Some of the remarks you read in the comments pages of wiki camps leaves you a wondering where they are coming from.

Given there are a couple of towns named Peterborough in Australia guess I should have mentioned the state, correction made.

Peterborough Council needs to be congratulated for opening up the town to grey nomads and also providing 72 hours free camping and a dump point, I think the sign is appropriate as it lets you know what councils requirements are if you choose to use this facility.
I have seen caravan parks with a much larger lists of don'ts
And little signs everywhere saying don't!!!!!!

Rob and I stayed there last year in Feb and we found the town friendly and interesting.
Rob enjoyed the trains..
It is a great camp and a bonus and credit to the local folks.

Stayed there last year, and while the sign is a bit 'in your face', it doesn't say anything not seen on signs at most council-run free camps. Maybe they could go the polite route like this sign at the 24-hour free camp in Southern Cross, WA, I spotted today.
Having looked at the sign in the Grey Nomad Times, some travellers should stop being so precious.
The sign was clear, concise and certainly wasn't rude. It made it very clear what was expected of those using the site, so there could be no argument. Unfortunately, reading about how many freedom and low cost camps are treated by those who demand them and use them, the blunter the message, the better they may understand it!
Peterborough have done a great job, like a number of locations, to make the place more welcoming for travellers. They offer free camping, in the town centre, and then get criticised for the sign. For goodness sakes. Some need to grow up. (PS this is not directed at those who have responded here!)
