A group of the Australian Cricket Team has colluded to tamper with the ball in the 3rd Test against South Africa. It would seem that they had given up trying to win by playing to the rules and so decided to cheat. Steve Smith and others had a meeting to discuss a method of cheating, since that failed and he admitted his involvement he said he won't step down as Captain, well I agree with him there he shouldn't step down, he should be sacked ( and all others that were involved ) permanently for bringing disgrace to the game and more importantly to the Nation!

I did not realise that our aussie boys had stooped so low as to cheat with the ball.
By the way, I also think that when players on the field are improving the performance of the ball by rubbing one side on their garments, that to me is
CHEATING.
It should be taken out of the game, and the ball should be allowed to perform on original condition and performance.
Now would be the right time to ban polishing the ball.

On top of the 'under arm' of years ago and (my personal) suspicions of wax or other products in that endless ball shining. Then there is that unsportsmanlike sledging, and betting.
Any life time wasted watching or following cricket is over for me. Every cloud has a silver lining they say.

It is a most unfortunate day for the sport in my eyes. And for all other sport, as I am certain this would not be an isolated example (remember Du Plessis and the mint last year in Australia? I hope we don't get too many self righteous comments from him) in either this sport, or any other professional sporting endeavour. And now we have a professional team admitting to what many thought went on.
These are the same "sportsmen" who at this time last year were telling us they would be going on strike as they deserved a bigger slice of the money pie. They then took their bat and ball home on strike, then got a bigger slice of the pie, and promptly lost their first test ever to Bangladesh! Talk about getting over paid for performance.
These people, and they are like all sports people, don't find cures for major illness, find a solution to world peace, nor solve any other of the bigger problems of life on this planet. They remain kids who haven't grown up, who continue to play kids games, and get overly well compensated for it. That's all they do in my eyes, and no one will convince me they deserve the money they get for any sport. Yes they provide entertainment, but that is it.
Stand down! You're kidding Steve! Just sack the whole group (and the coach who should have known), forfeit the series (because if they reckon the sledging has been bad up to now, wait and see what its like in the morning!)and lets move on and prepare for the coming summer, if anyone still wants to play with us.

I could not agree more with the comments posted so far. I remember a time when cricket stood out from all other games because of its traditions and fairness, its observance of the rules of sportsmanlike conduct and the honour of representing your country. It was often said that the position of captain of the Australian team was only second to being prime minister.
Over the last twenty odd years that has been completely trashed and it seems the prerequisite to being a member of our team is to be a foul mouthed lout looking for your next big contractual payment.
I can't accept that the whole team were not in on this. They should be punted immediately. I would rather we be represented by lesser lights who can play fairly than by this lot.

The team should resign from and forfeit this series. Those involved with the ball tampering should be banned, world-wide, for the rest of this and all of next season and they should be fined an appropriate sum. Smith should never be captain again.
I listened to Bancroft and Smith being interviewed on ABC News Radio this morning - it was quite clear their only regret was being caught.
And they had better not complain in the future when the crowd jeer them for this action.

Unfortunately, these players only use test cricket to get a profile so that they can obtain an IPL contract. They seem to have little regard to the traditions and the honour of representing your country at an elite level.
I think they should just forfeit the match and the series and return home.

The betrayal of our nation by our cricketers, why has this happened? I can only think that there is no discipline coming from CA nor the team leaders Smith and Warner. My thoughts about Warner are less than unkind so I will keep them to myself, Smith I thought could grow into the Captains position but alas to juvenile and self centred, never mind lacking in leadership skills and having few morals it would seem.
Thing that has me so disturbed is that the Leadership Group conceived a plan to cheat and they thought it was a good idea! It was something out of Dumb & Dumber and they thought it was OK to cheat, deceive and disgrace Our Nation and yet all we get in return is self pity. Cricket Australia obviously has been lacking in Leadership for the team to come up with this disgusting outcome I only hope that the punishment is severe and all involved are ex players and officials very soon.

Just saw this on the international news I cant believe that any Australian sportsman would think it was a good idea to cheat. We are an absolute joke in the eyes of the world our sportsmen are being perceived as being spoilt brats who cheat or chuck tantrums when they cant win. I totally agree with your sentiments Landy the plyers involved along with the coach should be sent home immediately.

Australia should forfeit the series, anybody involved should be sacked immediately and banned internationally for a few years, stripped of any match payments for the series and should apologize on international news for bringing disgrace to the sport and to Australia.

Has David Warner been caught by his own admission, this article is from The Sun in England so make up your own minds, I feel he is capable and arrogant enough to have done this.
Maybe MythBusters should be checking those claimed means of scuffing balls for effectiveness. A small piece of insulation tape with soil from the pitch and used furtively doesn't sound all that effective. Whereas a vigorous rubbing against a zipper could be.
What are the rules though? The moral offence is in even trying to do it. But do the rules require confirmation by the umpire/s of actual change in condition of the ball ie., to the detriment of the condition of the ball where the batsman is concerned?
It is strange though how a batsman's continual wicket maintenance with the bat to fix divots is not frowned upon as well.
