Just did a fairly detailed list - 300 items and I'm sure there is more. I keep adding more. Sounds impressive, but not that bad really. Its pretty detailed right down to individual sauces & spices etc. Just trying to get a shopping list together. No wonder I'm tired before I get on the road. lol

After travelling most of the time for 8 yrs I think I have it pretty well worked out. Rarely take things I don't use. Lots of things I could probably do without though. But might as well be comfortable and be prepared. My journeys take me to isolated spots 200ks from shops for quite long periods.

WOW ... given you have been 'doing this for 8 years' surely 95% of those 300 things are already there in the van/motorhome.
Are you re-stocking from a position of everything was consumed since you last drove off ... or everything (food, clothing, pots, pans, linen, toiletries etc etc) was taken out when you last stopped?
I guess if I were beginning from an absolutely empty van I might scrape up to 300 - but I doubt it. Unless I was counting, like you every single individual bottle of spice.
But it is all up to the individual and how we travel and as ya sed "might as well be comfortable and be prepared"

Yes RL , Went bush for 4months. Had to take EVERYTHING out to get the bulldust off, so I could start on the van. Every time time I drive it more dust seems to drop out. Just Par for the course if you go opal mining. Not sure if I will be doing it this year. I think a nice time travelling the Queensland tropics may be in order.
Brickies, have to pack anything you might need as its 200ks to the nearest shop.
Hi Doug, well that would be a real issue and likely to mean death. Drinking water is last on the list. lol

We've just been back on the road for 3 years now after a 20 years break. Gone from a camper trailer to a fully-equipped (but small) van. So packing the new van we knew what we needed and what we didn't. Only two things we've had to do. Firstly just cleaned out the utensil drawer. Way too many gadgets that we didn't use. Secondly was a toilet bag (roll of paper, hand wash, face-washer). One in the van when there is a loo and you don't want to fill your own too quickly, and one in the console of the tug.
Even after packing all the necessities, we still have tons of room. If we took up all the available space we would actually be over the limit if our van. Drinking water and a several days of food that does not need refrigeration are a must for us.
100mph tape & cable ties are also my best friend.

We've been full time 4 years now. No matter how much you do or don' t pack, you'll cull and add. Then cull some more. We make sure we have spare fuel, drinking water, loo paper, baby wipes and tin cans of food in the bus and the car.

Loo paper is a must. We had a call-in on the local radio station a few years ago as to what was the most important item in the house and loo paper was the most important. Unless you are entirely run out of food, there is generally something one can whip up. There is really no substitute for loo paper. Both wife and I have told each other than running out of loo paper is unforgivable

I never run out of loo paper - I buy a specific brand and it is not available everywhere - i.e. Wooolies have it as do IGA, but Coles don't stock it, neither do Foodworks. So always got a spare 4 double size rolls in the storage, for emergency, and one pack being used.
