Yep, we're off fishing with our boat, sleeping under canvas for a month.
The caravan is locked & covered at home.
We'll be targeting Dusky Flathead & Black Bream in East Gippsland VIC.
Fishing has been one of our favorite hobbies for over 40 years.
We do plenty of land based fishing too when we're away with our caravan.
Are there any other keen fisho's out there on the forum?

Half your luck DD, Flathead Fillets breakfast, lunch and dinner - on the grill, maybe a spud double wrapped in foil in the embers of a night is sittin' on Heaven's doorstep.

We've been eating black bream and sand whiting for months since we have returned home from our winter escape- getting a bit booring really. ad thought we might take the van out to Lake Tyers on the weekend but weather not looking too good.

Flattie fillets are around $55 per kilo at the moment, ridiculous!
We have some great recipes for our catch.
We do a great garlic seafood mornay type pasta sauce & fillets coated with a garlic parmesan crust, YUM!

Don't forget to pack the Panko Bread Crumbs, they are the best by far. Great on Flathead, Bream, KG Whiting, Rainbow Trout, Snapper.
I'm planning a trip to the Cape, starting off in June and I will be fishing all the way up.

When your rod tip almost hits the water, 40 meters of line is ripped off the spool & the rod is nearly torn out of the rod holder when a 6-7 pounder hits it's exciting.
Catching flatties out in the ocean in deep water is pretty boring though.
We love the Bream, they fight well & taste great.

DD,hope the fishing is better up there this year than last year,the year before was great.
Get plenty of those blood mussels,might be up there in Mid. March.

In 20 years we've never been out in our boat without coming back to shore with a decent feed of fish.
Our son was there a few weeks back, they were biting well, Flatties on live Mullet & Bream on local Prawn.

Plenty of Sea Eagles around. Ospreys have been seen in the area as well.

After a long trip , windy day not being able to get to the fav fishing hole due to the wind ..Stuck up a creek hiding from said wind , battling hoards of mozzies midgies n sandflies , trying to warm up the lower halfe early hours of the morning , battling sharks, shovel nose sharks , n annoying catfish in the 15-to twenty kilo mark , finally was rewarded with this nice prize that too a long run on my line :)..
Tried ever so hard to wear the braid through on the bottom of the hull but let most drag off the reel and just thumbed it as usually do when a good fish pays a visit and was rewarded for my effort.
Now just need to get one a tad bigger than this on..
Used to have a boat chasing the Snapper out from Patterson Lakes. My sons said "we will go out with you all the time". I think they came out twice each so it was always me on my own putting the boat in & retrieving it which did not help my back.
Nowadays I do some beach fishing or walk & wade along some trout streams breathing the fresh air & dodging snakes. Regularly head up the Vic High Country chasing the Browns & Rainbows.

A fisherman I have never been, but when I get travelling it is something I want to do/learn. Did a little when I was younger though. So, you just may be the ones I will come to for advice.
For starters, as a beginner without a boat of any kind, for the present, what kind, rod or line do you recommend for wherever I may find myself either on the coast or elsewhere?

It depends where you're going to & what kind of natural features are there, a river, estuary, lake or surf beach.
There are separate fishing tackle requirements for each although a light 6ft long rod with a spinning reel wound with 12lb line will cover most applications.
There is plenty of info available on the internet & in books from the library regarding hooks, sinkers, bait & artificial lures.
