Well the news is that we have to return to strathalbyn to set up for at least 2 years. 2018 will see us do no travel at all as I have ongoing treatments for the skin cancers and arthritis. 2019 we will drive (vanless) to sydney for our Nephews 30th staying in cabins and other accommodations.
The decision was based on family needs (grandchildren) and the need to be closer for our daughters. We both miss these people when we are away for extended periods of time. I guess, if im honest with myself, I dont think I will be able to hitch up and clean up for travel much longer. I am on a health program for vets which included gym workouts with an exercise physiologist, dietitians and physiotherapy. My body is healing a little after years (make that decades) of neglect.
We leave Wallaroo on Monday morning for the last tow. Strath will be the vans final resting place and our permanent home. When we travel it we will be staying in cabins etc or on board a ship.

Phil, The Driver got to the stage, back in 2012, where health put an end to our caravanning. He just could not deal with the van hitching, set up etc, any more. Hips, lungs, heart issues.
But he missed the travel, after a while, and we bought a fitted out Coaster. He manages this with ease - totally different in terms of loading, setting up etc. Might be food for thought?

G'day Phil, Anyone who features a great picture taken on the "Nullarbor" on his profile is a great bloke who deserves all the best of luck medically.
The picture makes me a little homesick after spending a number of years driving on "that" road - the old road varied so much during that time. We were spoiled when the bitumen came.
As I heard a couple of "old" blokes in the Ceduna Foreshore Caravan Park facilities one morning say when greeting each other - One of them said "Every day I wake up breathing & can see the sun is a great day". So Phil, keep breathing & enjoying the days as they come.

Sad to hear the news Phil, but I guess this is a decision we will all have to face one day. Hope you can settle down and do what you need to do for your health and family. I've learned a lot from your posts over the five years I've been a member of this Forum and particularly enjoyed reading about your Nullarbor trip a little while ago. Hi Phil .I am sure you shall now enjoy this next phase of your life .My mate released his towbar at 76 and now travels all the usual routes. He takes 2 chairs and his faithful Waeco so he can chat at the BBQ and partake in happy hour and then retire to his on site cabin ! Simples !Cheers mate and enjoy.
