Yep, if you're camped somewhere & you hear guitar, mandolin, ukulele & harmonica coming from the same direction (not at the same time) it's probably little ol' me.
Rock, blues, jazz & country, love it all.
The three middle instruments with cases are my travel arsenal.
Call it a hobby if you like but it's been an obsession of mine since 1964.
On our last trip I sat under our caravan awning playing my mandolin & a herd of cows came over to the nearby fence to listen. Talk about a captive audience. They seemed really moooooooved by my performance!

Yep, my favorite is the Fender Telecaster.
Really enjoy the occasional session with others. My three rules:
1. Don't dominate.
2. Listen to others.
3. Relax & enjoy.
I'll show you my hands, they've played Eric Clapton's, Stevie Ray Vaughn's & Jimi Hendrix's guitars all at the London Hard Rock Cafe's vault museum.
The guide took them off their stands, removed the security systems & handed them to me. What a lifetime thrill!

I'm envious can almost play piano.

Maybe you can sell a few of her shoes to Maxwell Smart as mobile phones. That way you could pay for your piano lessons.
Luckily I was playing the guitar well before I met my other half so the instruments came with me as a package deal. Luckily she also loves to hear me play.

You are very lucky DD ,back in the mid 80's i bought a Fender Teley ,i already owned a nice late 60's Les Paul but i also wanted a Strat
SWAMBO said i had to sell one of one of my instruments to be able to get the Strat (we were a struggling young family at the time)
I sold my Teley to buy L series strat. We are all still together after all these years

I'm with you mate! No instruments in that rubbish, it's all computer generated. The lyrics are obscene in some of it.
If we stay in a caravan park with piped music in the amenities block I'm out of there as quick as possible.
Same goes for shopping centers & supermarkets.

Enjoyed several evening around a camp fire in the middle of W.A. While gold prospecting with a guy who broke out an amplifier and keyboard and sang old time music. Just five of us there. i had some pics but computer self destructed. Add some spirit and it was fantastic. Play D.D

This thread direction called to memory a night in a rest area with three or four other vanners, an oversized low loader only allowed to move in daylight hours and a large-ish Mercedes Sprinter type van with just gear in it (not fitted out at all) with a lone driver who insisted on waltzing about the site in only his very brief jocks (despite there being young children wanting to play outside their rigs), then at about 1130 pm he started up his electric key board at high volume!
Oh joy! Oh delight!
The low loader driver was NOT favourably impressed! Nor were any of us others!
A Country Western couple had been playing their stuff up until dusk, but then went quiet.

All acoustic for me.
If we're camped in close company the ukulele is the quietest, less obtrusive way to go.
I leave my amplified instruments at home permanently.
We've struck a few amplified C&W dudes on our travels, they're bl**dy annoying, mostly because they can't sing to save themselves & have very basic instrumental skills.
We reckon that they probably sound better the more you drink.

Some of our travel companions (ardent annual Tamworth attendees) taught us "Dead Skunk in the Middle of the road" which we did around the camp fire with them (plus other songs) BUT we were in the middle of the Eyre Highway and no others for miles around!

DD I went to YT and had a listen to Marianne Faithful singing As Tears Go By, she always was a fav of mine. Many moons ago as a teen on TV I sang Mariannes song If You'll Come And Stay With Me. What a great era of music it was, I just love listening to it. The Byrds were awesome Hey Mr Tambourine Man play a song for me lol, The Stones and many more, The Hollies, Kinks, The lovin Spoonful, McCoys with Hang On Sloopy lol, and I could go on and on. Its a rainy Sunday and I am loving it, wishing you both the same, sitting here enjoying steak, accompanied by the 60's rock box.....Kisha.

DD I agree, they played instruments, they could sing, they could harmonise without the addition of some computerised enhancement putting in what they can't deliver themselves.
