Yesterday being Australia Day I spent the morning driving around Sohar with Aussie flags proudly flying from the back windows of my Yaris, this might be common practice in Oz but I can tell you it sure gets peoples attention around this place. A group of us expat Aussies who weren,t rostered to work set up camp on the lawn in front of the beach at The Sohar Beach Hotel - flags flying, aussie table cloths, cups, umbrella hats even had the aussie beach balls, as you can imagine copious amounts of beer was consumed. At the end of the day Some of the guys caught taxis home others like me stayed at the hotel and made use of their very good restaurant. Both Aussie and NZ lamb or beef is readily available in Oman even if it is guaranteed to be Halal (along with camel & goat of course) and surprisingly it is around the same price as you are paying back there. I was a bit seedy this morning but a great Australia Day was had by all.....bring on Anzac Day.
Cheers

What's the old saying? - you can take the boy out of the bush but you can't take the bush out of the boy.
