We've just sold our Jayco Swan camper trailer and for it's whole life we had bath mats down to protect the floor. Worked great and the floor surface is immaculate. We've got a new Starcraft now and want something a bit better than bathmats! Any recommendations? We were thinking of carpet offcuts but then worried about the abrasive underside of it, this could damage the flooring?

Welcome to the gang zed, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I got some narrow carpet mats from the big green shed that fit nicely down the middle of the van. Helps keep the cold of the delicate feet and look good too. They have different colours and don't cost much.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Was looking at that outside carpet type covering yesterday on big rolls at Bunnings . How would this go ? It could be cut to fit better than Mat too .

We got thin carpets square from masters when they were trading and covered the whole floor so no matts , We wanted a bit of insulation when we were in cold places it worked great so we will leave them in place .Had looked at matts but size was a big problem . But with the carpets squares 400 mm x 400mm cut them to suit , Did a look of planing to limit cutting and waste works great .

Our motorhome came from the English factory with carpets cut and bound to the shape of the floor area. There are three separate carpets all bound on the edges, one for the kitchen, one for the lounge area and one for the bathroom. They all have press studs to ensure the do not move. The floor below is vinyl. After every trip I remove the carpets and vacuum & wash the floor. After three years the floor is not scratched and the sections are easy to clean out of the MH. The section for the bathroom is in the house as we felt carpet in the bathroom would be a health hazard. Carpet does make a difference in winter when you hop out from under the blankets onto a warmish floor rather than cold vinyl. Cheers,

We went to a carpet seller and bought different lengths of their out dated samples. Great mats and you carpet the can for about $40 cheers daz

Ikea have some rubber-backed hallway runners in various lengths. I felt that the slight embossed pattern and plain charcoal colour were quite modern.

I have the long carpet mat down the middle like Douggie. It looks good too. I think if you cut carpet to be a good fit it might give the look of a carpeted van, which I find quite overbearing. The long mats are easy to take out to shake down/clean too.

Carpet can be heavy. Don't go overboard or the floor covering will take a large percentage of your 3/400 kg load allowance. Look around for something very light. Your bath mats sound rather good when keeping your load down. You now have a larger van with more storage space. Your loading is bound to go up considerably.

Don't discount your bath mats. At least they can be thrown into any washing machine to freshen them up. WE have three bath mats, one at the door, one in the bathroom, and one at the end of the bed.
Up our "hall" which is kitchen, we have a runner - we bought a rug in Nimbin (say no more) which is totally machine washable. It is folded in half length ways, we get four "folds" out of it before we have to put it in the washing machine. (it fits in our 3kg machine)
By having scatter rugs, we have warm area for our feet in winter. The vinyl floor is now almost 7 years old and in great condition.
If you have carpet, you can't throw it in the washing machine

We used hallway carpet from bunnings Cut to length u want. Now do not bother. Just a towel at the door.

We too went to the Big Green Shed and brought rubber backed carpet squares 450mm -500mm square.
placed them up the common walk way to the foot of the bed. the diesel heater outlet blows along the same to the bathroom/kitchen. Warm pinkies all the way back to bed.
Feels like we never left the covers in the first place.
I cut one at 45 deg, so it made a inside corner, and the leftover peice fits the outside. Looks good to.
They stay in place 90% of our outback adventures.
The best part is we can pull the lot up and dust them away from the van. Back in place in 5 minutes.

I have a Jayco Journey just over 12 months old. In the brochure I received concerning the floor covering the warning was not to use rubber backed material on the floor. It may be worth checking out.

Some rubber backing turns some of the vinyl flooring yellow. That happened to our first Spaceland van.
