I am sseking the location for that illusive pot of gold we all seek.
I am taking my 10 year old grandson on a fossicking expedition (in and around NSW) starting from Sydney.
I am hoping that old "Pirate" may know where the "X" is and share their secret with me & the 10y/o.
He is into minerals, opals, gold, Dinosaurs etc, and we will be commencing our journey at the Mineral Museum at Bathurst.
I do hope that some good suggestions will be offered, and hopefully allow him to experience the joy of finding / panning some "yellow stuff".
He is super wise beyond his years, and would most gladly share his find with the source.
i do sincerely thank you all in advance for your assistance.
Cheers, and happy travels, Keiron B

Friends are fossicking at Sheba Dam, somewhere in NSW, looks a good spot. Might be somewhere to head - could help you out if you were in Victoria.

On one of our trips we went gem fossicking at Inverell at an organised site. The girls found all sorts of little "treasures". Then later in the trip we went into an opal/gem dealer in Lightning Ridge and the girls want to know how much these "treasures" would cost to be made into jewellery. The dealer had rubbish bins with scraps bigger than the girls found. They left with a handful of scraps.

If you want to see a big collection of minerals Emmaville (Glenn Innes area) is brilliant. Check hours of operation before you go there.
You will have guaranteed success Panning for Gold or Sapphires the entire length of Abercrombie River or Jerrong Wide Creek - The findings will be small but there will be some shows, if you are prepared to put in the hours. As most of these rivers are on Privately owned land you will need to seek the Landholder's permission - there are some parts within Blue Mountains National Park but it is pretty rugged country.

Do you still need miners rights to even prospect these days? I believe it still costs $27 to be able to do this. I may be wrong but even specking can cost a lot of dollars in fines!
