I don't "do" face book, twitter, or any of those other "tell the world everything"
I don't follow "you tube", or anything similar.
But I enjoy GN
Life's quiet and peaceful. (Or, as the old saying goes, ignorance is bliss.)
Happy new year.

I have always been an enthusiastic user of technology. Perhaps comes from a lifetime of working in a technical area. And then when I became a senior manager a colleague advised that if I didn't keep up with computer based data manipulation, I wouldn't have a job in 5 yrs. And he was right. So I got hooked again & a whole new world opened up. I enjoyed every bit of it too.
But I don't do facebook or any of those sharing my life platforms. I even withdrew from Linkedin.
It will be interesting to see how many of our 16 guests for XMAS Lunch, find it necessary to refer to their screens during the meal. Most especially the kids I reckon.
My Grandkids live on the bloody things, especially when they visit because we have superfast unlimited use internet. Quite common for them to have two on the go all the time. A day here sees them use upwards of 50 gig of data.
Merry XMAS

Easy solution Cupie, turn the modem off and stash it where it wont be found.
Merry Christmas, enjoy your day.

It all began with an iPhoneMarch was when our son celebrated his 17th birthday, and we got him an iPhone. He just loved it. Who wouldnt?
I celebrated my birthday in July, and my wife made me very happy when she bought me an iPad.
Our daughters birthday was in August so we got her an iPod Touch.
So I got my wife an iRon for Christmas.
It was around then that the fight started..
What my wife failed to recognize is that the iRon can be integrated into the home network with the iWash, iCook and iClean.
This inevitably activates the iNag reminder service.
I should be out of the hospital next week!!

We have a small laptop to use while we're away, a single mobile phone between us & a basic home computer. That's enough for us.
Less technology equates to less frustration IOO.

Im 61yo. So a little younger that some here. I do facebook. It is a case of keeping in touch with friends and family, swapping photos of your activities and news and weather. But its even more than that, Im on a site that has animal videos, otters, dogs, cats in boxes etc. Had one the other day of a ginnea pig climbing stairs, hilarious. You share it with your friends. Each to their own
I have twitter but dont use it. Im particularly sensitive to my use being portrayed as rude eg at a table. Thats the main worry, lack of etiquette. Australia doesnt have such a thing.
Japan does.

You are not the only one, Pipes
I am the same as you, except that I have a Desktop PC at home, and share the laptop with the boss, when travelling
Which is probably why I am not on the forum, when I travel

Same here Pipes, I work off a desk top at home, I have a lap top, take it with me when I travel, but seldom go online.
I don't have a smart phone, just a basic mobile to make and receive calls, think it cost me $70 from Target, does the job.
