Hi we wondered if anyone could help with a rego problem. We live in WA and we're starting our around Oz travels this week. First stop is Queensland to pick up a used van which will obviously be registered in Qld. All the family live in Qld so have used their address for purchase. Then it's off to Tassie for a couple of months.
Can we drive a WA registered vehicle with a Qld registered van? Is it possible to change reg online or do we need to take the van 'over the pits' in WA? We'll be returning to live in WA but maybe not for a few years.
Any info from your experiences would be most helpful thanks...

Welcome to the gang annibee, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I see no reason why you can't have a van and car registered in different states, at least until your return to WA. May I suggest you contact WA rego mob and ask them the question, that way you have it right. Might also be worth a call to the QLD rego mob as well.
Enjoy Tassie, great state. Enjoy the good ship 'Spirit' as well, just keep an eye out for frozen lumps of water to the starboard side.

A warm welcome from me also, annibee
As I am also from the West, I have never had anything not registered in this state, so unfortunately I can not answer the question
If you have not received the info you want within a few days, (not many come to this section of the forum)
Perhaps if you copy and paste your question, in the General Section of the forum, you may get a better response

I bought a new Silverline last July from the Mildura dealer, had it registered using a family member's Victorian address.
Travelled back to WA, used in now for nearly 18 months, renewed the Vic rego in July & still towing with a WA reg car.
I guess I should change it but just been TDL.
Cheers Neil

G'day Anniebeee and welcome to the forum. Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.

Hi Anniebee
If you talk to the WA rego dept they will accept a inspection certificate from and other state or territory and allow you to change your address to WA
I have a vehicle that needs to go over the pit each year and I get it inspected in the state where I am and fax it to TMR QLD (pre arranged )Note that I will avoid Victoria in future as there inspection is the most expensive in Australia
I have be told that if you hold a divers licence in a state (eg NSW ) your vehicle must be registered in that state and it is an offence under the road traffic act to have different residence address for licence and vehicle
