i have had a bit of trouble myself, on Facebook. I had to get off my account and start a new one with a false name after I stirred up a bit of angst from the gun lobby in America. Then I had to explain to my hundred or so fake friends that I was not a stranger at all, and on and on.
on my second attempt I kept it very straight, no irony, no sarcasm and no big lies. It just wasnt that much fun any more. By this time my wife was monitoring my account, and the extended family, conscious of my difficulties were jumping onto everything to stir up anger and profanity. There was more trouble brewing.
I am a bit prone to the black dog, and everyone elses family was so much happier and more successful than my own, or so it seemed! It made me depressed, so about a year ago I just shut it down and I have not looked at Facebook since. I rate it as a very good move, and recommend you to follow. I use the time freed up to work, read a couple of newspapers end to end, and think about things.
i am pretty sure most of you, like me, grew up before you could put a telephone in your pocket. My folks did not have a phone in the house. In an emergency I rode my bike to deliver a note. We got by very well, had lots of interaction with the neighbours, and the family. We read the paper on Saturdays and my Dad brought home topical news from the pub, where he spent the hour five til six coughing down a few beers with all comers.
later I realised that whilst my grandparents had a Phone, my grandmother did not quite get the technology. When it rang, she would shout out, hang on, Im just emptying the sink or whatever. At the end she would put the receiver on the handset, then move away whilst saying, good to talk, keep in touch, love to the kids and so on.
In my immediate post Facebook phase I reverted to the 1950s, a very propitious era in my life. I began by buying a fountain pen and a writing block to write to family and friends. It was very time consuming but I felt the actual messages had more weight to them, because of the time involved, the stamp, the arduous international delivery, and the personal imprint, handwriting and so on.
i have in my files a letter that my father, now well deceased and long gone, wrote to congratulate me when I passed my university entrance exam in 1964. His flambouyant cursive writing style, his brief, grammatical and heartfelt message are the measure of the man. My wife has similar correspondence from her mother. Alas, the present generation will have no part of us to remember us by.
Go buy a good pen and send your kids a letter to remember you by.

Defenestration is the act of throwing someone or something out of a window. The term was coined around the time of an incident in Prague Castle in the year 1618, which became the spark that started the Thirty Years' War. ... The word comes from the New Latin de- (out of or away from) and fenestra (window or opening).
Did he jump or was he pushed, I suspect the former.

I got abused then banned on Whirlpool. Told one reply that I made was "stupid" in a very cruel/abusive way. I replied accordingly and got banned. When I asked why, apparently the person who abused me was a co-administrator and he didn't like my reply. A case of do what I say, not what I do.
Took me 3 fake names on Facebook to get an obscure name that I didn't get lots of crap or abuse. Have very tight security too. Only issue is that when a joined a couple of closed forums I had to explain to the admins who I was and why. I suspect having the same name and similar age as a former politician didn't help.

Takes a while to get used to different people. If you look at the history of short tempered often bordering on nasty texters that get banned. Pretty obvious that they intended to go down in a blaze of glory or to be vindictive to others.
Many replies like "I say what I think", "I don't tolerate fools easily", are a favorite stand by. The nature of these fellows seems to be to put others down in a personal manner rather than address the topic.
On one forum we had a bloke join up in another name to his existing name. He want to pursue a member he didn't like apparently. He even answered his own posts. Discovered, he was banned by the Moderators. Tough to be a Moderator alright.
I reckon if you join a lobby group of USA gun lovers to give them a piece of your mind you are going to need a pretty thick skin. If you have depression that type of endevour will only feed it.
Considering that about 40 mums or dads get killed just by a loose, loaded gun, left rattling around in a car. These people will never admit it was their fault. Refuting them is always going to be difficult.
But I have no intention to railroad the topic to guns either.... Good to see you managing I know it can be very hard.

This forum is WAY MORE TOLERANT than the photographic forum that we've been a member of for the past 8 years.
Older people on forums need to realize that just because some people disagree with their opinions they are not being bullied or harassed.
Forums are designed for members to express different opinions.

I'm a member of much stricter forums and others that have little or no obvious moderation.
I much prefer a stricter regime to one where wanna-be gangstas or faux-experts rule though lack of moderation.
Not sure about here but many forums have a warning before kick protocol.

It might be quieter for a while, but I suspect that the reduced white noise will attract members with clearer, contextually relevant contributions.

I too will be sorry to see Macca go ,i know that at times he was a right royal D!@k He#d and he spoke his mind but that was his personality whether it was a good or bad thing

To be quite honest ,i have never in my whole life came across a bloke who has done absolutely everything to be done in the whole world ,fixed all the engines,driven all the trucks,
sailed all the ships, driven and maintained all the heavy machinery in the world,fixed up all the caravans in the world ,a wiz at pluming ,a wiz at electronics ,a wiz at reversing
blah ,blah ,blah, etc, etc etc.There wasn't much he didn't know and a lot of the times he was correct.
I thought he was good value,but he did cross the line
