Don't think he should chuck it out, it might be handy one day.

My son moved from a house with a reasonable sized 2 car garage and workshop - to a place with a 40 x 60 barn type shed - he still hasn't got enough room for his "toys" and tools ---When his grandfather passed on, we cleaned out his shed - there was probably every set of points he had changed over 40 -50 years, spark plugs, by the dozen - no good any of them - old oil in cans - you name it! My hubby used to keep every power tool after it broke down - might need a part one day - boys and their toys!!!

I think that any man who has ever had a shed, can relate to this predicament, John
It makes me wonder, if the following words from a song come from, a man in his shed
You dont know what you got, until you lose it
You wont know what you missed, until you cant reuse it
I shall go home now, it must be bedtime

As well as a 2 car oversize garage, I've got another 4 sheds; 6x6, 3x3, 4.5x3, 4.5x1.8. They are all full with treasures. I have all my father's and his father's stuff plus some of my other grandfather's stuff. Every spanner size & type know to man, garden tools left over from the stone age, plus the indoor furniture from my parents place when mum recently shifted into a home. I can't help myself. Anything breaks, I dissemble it and store the components. Had a big cleanup earlier this year when I put up the 3x3. In reality I was just shuffling the deckchairs on the Titanic.

I'm guilty - I think it comes from being raised by Parents who lived through the Great Depression.

Absolutely.
My grandfather worked in a foundry that made the old cast iron toilet cisterns. Only one tool was ever bought (obtained) and whole sets were cast from the original. So I inherited a heap of "fake" tools, many with VR on them. About 10 years when I concreted a shed floor, I used all the old kit as re-inforcing - sort of like a time capsule. There are screwdrivers, spanners, files, nuts & bolts, slotted screws etc used as re-inforcement. In a thousand years it will be an archaeologist's dream.

I think when we pass ,our kids are going to be ruthless and throw everything out.
When my son comes over to visit he goes into my shed and says "gee dad you gotta get rid of this junk"
then in the next breath he'll ask me if i need this or need that, then it will go to his place.
I raised him up well ....Like father ...like son.

About 50 years ago when my parents shifted house, it took 1/2 day to shift the contents of the house and 2 1/2 days to shift the contents of dad's sheds.

Yes I can relate well. I love going into the OLD shed when I go and see my mother. She still tells me stories behind all those old bits and pieces. Beautiful memories and I am happy to have them shared with me regularly. Old is so beautiful in many ways. Regards Kisha.

Just finished cleaning up a few van related items in my garage and 3x3 shed. Found several non-van related items that were stored in a safe place that I had forgotten about and would never have found. Like 3 metric/imperial tape measures. Knew I had 2, one of which was missing. I now have 3. Even if you don't clean out the shed, you at least re-organise it and have more space to store more

My 90 year old dad regularly says "One day this will be all yours". (Well my brothers and mine). And I look into my Hubbies shed and think "Boy you've got a lot of stuff. But I have a lot of stuff too. Oh dear.
