I was unhitching the caravan and not concentrating on what the instructions said "SPREAD YOUR LEGS" SWMBO was calling out and bang felt a great pain on my right thigh.
Lowering the hitch and it slipped and hit my thigh, this bruise is one week old. The worst part was it should not have happened as I had done it before when I just got the van (had the van for 12months) it was not so bad.
I am on blood thinning aspro as I have 2 stents in the old ticker, how the initial bruising was bad and horrible.

Should have taken tension off WDH with jockey wheel,
even when tensioning them up saves the old muscles that way.

A mate of mine had to make an emergency trip to the Belmont Hospital recently after a similar accident. Great big gash in his leg.
When I first started vanning a fellow camper told me that he broke his foot with a spring bar.
I always keep the feet & legs well clear. The jockey wheel idea is a good one too ... I do that if I remember but can do so on one side only because of where the JW fits.

Got a mate who took his little toe off,(with a whoops slips moment) right off, so keep your feet well clear as well. He had to learn how to walk again as well

Jockey wheel "trick" IS the only safe way.
Hernias etc with us old farts.
ALSO. I always use a 15\18inch stainless tube to fit.
Stand at rear of car. Tube t'ween self and van front.
Crank up Jockey. Release pin, lower tube.
Just keep legs behind bar. It'll stop when it hits ground and not bounce up to you.
You can do it both sides easy.
PS. You normally ONLY get your leg or foot ONCE.
