Gday...
The NBN has been discussed, castigated and sometimes praised on this forum and is particularly topical this week in parliament and on TV.
I believe the main cause of the outcome we, the consumers (and taxpayers) are suffering is that our pollies are being driven by their misplaced drive for efficiency when it is effectiveness that should have been the aim and goal.
efficient adj.
1. performing or functioning with the least waste of time and effort;
2. satisfactory and economical to use;
3. producing an effect.
effective adj.
1. adequate to accomplish a purpose; producing the intended or expected result;
2. in operation or in force; functioning; operative;
3. prepared and available for service.

In my area, (at my home base address)
Iinet are giving limitless data on the NBN, for $69.99 per month
I am sure that we pay more than that, (same provider), and that the data is not limitless
It was thanks to your post, that I have just come across this limitless date

You are lucky, my options for the NBN are not available until the middle of next year! As far as efficient goes, because of changes by our Government, compatibility issue between copper and fibre technology, our data rate will be probably less than it is now! That is an definite increase in efficiency!

Had we built NBN the way Kevin 07 envisioned it, we would have had an information highway that was at least comparable to the rest of the developed world's.
What Malcontent Turncoat did was turn it into a highway composed mainly of backroads that will need upgrading as soon as it is 'completed'. The final upgraded cost of his unsaleable white elephant will undoubtedly be more than FTTP. Just remember that the initial costs of FTTP was skewed upwards because of the policy to cable regional areas before doing the more economical heavily populated areas.
Perhaps a study of the technology might reveal the limitations of wireless in heavy usage areas.

I agree with most of what you say Cupie but the money that Kevin woud have spent would have bankrupted our country they had no idea of efficiency they were crazy times governed by crazy people...

Yep, the current phase of outsourcing everything we can is a crock as well as being highly inefficient.
My son is currently looking at VERY lucrative outsourcing contracts from NBN that are far more lucrative than his thriving Plumbing business.
As an example of the inefficiencies of outsourcing ...
I have a footpath tree that is reaching its end of life after25 years that I know of & it drops large branches after almost every storm.
I rang the Council to have it replaced by two new trees.
Eventually a contract team came out to remove the latest fallen branch.
Then a Council Arborist came out and told me that they 'might' get another 5 years out of it. & put a blue dot on the trunk.
Then out came another contract team of 3 who cut off a few branches & put safety tape over them.
Then along came yet another contract team with a tree muncher & chopped it all up into their truck.
Then along came the Arborist again & looked at it & made a note on his clipboard.
Then an outsourced call centre rang me to see if the problem was solved.
(Oh by the way, the Arborist said that if the expected storms hit, the whole process could take 3 months .. but it only took about 3 weeks ... lucky wasn't I. A neighbour was fined about $1500 for taking out 3 crappy footpath Cocus Palms, so I wasn't about to do the job on my footpath tree. I was also told that I couldn't cut off the root that was breaking up my garden edging. Not even on my property. ... It might kill the bloody tree)
Reminiscent of how they go about providing a NBN connection, but much simplified. No wonder NBN costs a fortune & takes forever.

GETTING NOWHERE FAST
We been on NBN for 6\8 months now.
Figures SAY (on OOCLA Speedtest) that it faster.
It's actually slower by near 20% than it was when started up.
and in real world.
IE Using computer x 2, Wi-FI and cable
the NBN is around 40% SLOWER than my old 7 to 8 ADSL2+ was.
Costs the same.
and they WON'T Change me back again. I'm trying to con them into Satellite.
IE. NOT fit for stated use or speeds.
