Hi people - following on from another post (now closed) about emergency numbers - this app has been developed by the combined efforts and talents of our
Emergency Service personnel in Australia. It as a great app, as when you hit the 000 button, your exact location - address and co-ordinates are shown on the screen, and on the screen of the person answering your call. The info (and map) is sent via satellite I believe, and if they can't speak to you, (no phone reception) - they will a couple of times, the send someone to your location.
A MUST HAVE for all travellers, walkers, hikers, etc. Easy to install on phone tablet.
Save the App that could save your life.

Thanks for that post Jules I have down loaded it to my phone great APP . I know how important this app is has when I was in the fire service and often received calls from people out on the highway reporting an incident who did not have clue where they were so this will get help much faster .

I'm fairly sure the relevant info can't be sent TO emergency services unless you have mobile coverage.
Unless your device has satellite comms ability GPS info is one-way only.
Still a great app though and thoroughly recommended.

This appears to me that it got nothing to do with GPS it's about locating the position of the mobile phone signal and even if the person can't to heard they can identify the exact spot where the call is been transmitted from and can send help .

Thank Jules. What a very sensible app.Frankly I couldn,t give a stuff how or what the concept of locating me is ,suffice to say that if I need assistance and I have in the past every little bit of info helps,so I have installed it on all my families phones .Cheers.

There is NO WAY that this app will work without mobile phone reception. To believe otherwise is foolish.

Yes you are right Peter ,But it still is a great app to have on you phone , I often have been in the city and found it hard to workout the location I was at , So if I had to call for help would be a problem with this app the OOO operator would know exactly where we were , You could be trapped in your car and not be able to identify land marks . People traveling in area without phone coverage would have the gear to use to seek help . Anybody with a smart phone should install this app I again thank Jules for bringing this to our notice .

All I know is what I was told by an Ambo who was promoting it at a free camp one day - I still think it is a good app to have. thanks Brickies - the map shows up as soon as you hit the red cross - with the co-ordinates, so no need to ask an operator.
Safe travels - take care

A great app.
But the problem for me a POM is that it is only available to download from the Australian App store so we cant get it.
I also have a drone and there is another great app from the Australian government RPAS called Can I Fly Here also only available in the Australian App Store.
I have even emailed them asking for it to be made available globally but they just say there is no plan to make it available in other app stores.
But for you lucky Australians they are both very useful apps.
An example of how useful the drone app is, at the moment we are in Bridport Tasmania and there was a bushfire close by and there is a total ban on flying drones, two other third party apps I have say its Ok to fly! The government app which is accurate tells you that you are NOT allowed to fly.
The Emergency+ app is a free app developed by Australia's emergency services and their Government and industry partners.
The app uses GPS functionality built into smart phones to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services
The Triple Zero Kids' Challenge, where kids learn about how to deal confidently with and get help in an emergency, by playing games and solving problems.
They'll learn about safety messages and hear what happens when you call Triple Zero (000)
cheers
