We'd just like to say how efficient emergency services are on that number. Yesterday we were using up some time before booking into a CP in Bright VIC at 2pm. After doing some shopping in Myrtleford we parked our rig beside the Ovens River in a small park on the edge of town. There was no-one there except for a guy in a white 4x4 ute. He looked agitated as he paced around his car. He got a sturdy rope out of the tray & stood in the tray. He then formed a noose & threw the noosed end over a thick branch of a tree next to his ute. He tied the other end to his towbar. He put the noose around his neck & seemed to be holding his head in his folded arms rocking back & forth. He was going to step out of the tray & do the deed. We couldn't believe what we were seeing as we TRIED to eat our lunch! We think he may have been waiting for us to pull out but we were determined to stay. We rang 000 & the police arrived in about 3 minutes. They cautiously approached him & he started yelling loudly at them. One of them went back to the car & got on the radio. As we pulled out another police car arrived as back up. Well done to the local police & we hope things turned out OK. We reckon that we ended up more stressed than the bloke & the police. God knows what lunch tasted like!

Very well done. It is heartening to hear good reports about our emergency services, who come in for so much rubbishing these days. And well done Keith and Judy, there are those in our society who would have just stood there and filmed the whole thing on their phones.

Another good on yer, from me, for doing the right thing, and dialling the "000"
It is sad to see, when someone thinks that what the man was planing, is the only solution left to them
It is also good to remember that, the police also get a bit traumatised, in these situations
In the sixties, before RTA, you went to a police station to get a drivers licence
In the Boulder WA police station, was a poster of a policeman holding a young bleeding, and dying person in his arms, at a traffic accident scene
The caption said in large letters
"And they call us pigs"
I for one, have respect for the police

I rang 000 once to report a some kids setting fire to the bush. All the operator was interested in was what I was doing in Perth as they had me residing in Darwin. Once that was sorted, then came the phone number. By the time the fire services arrived the kids had gone and the fire had burnt great swathes through the bush.

I'm a firm believer in right to death, my life I should be able to finish it wherever, whenever and however I please. If someone wants to die, that is their right. I have some serious health issues which will finish me off one day, I hope before that time comes the law is changed so I can finish the job a little sooner and avoid the pain and suffering that will come.

People in their right mind seldom contemplate suicide. This bloke was probably depressed, I can tell you it is a rotten state, and having had a good think about suicide at one moment, I can also tell you that plenty of ordinary, stable people get that way at one time in their life.
The problem is that it causes unbelievable damage to those left behind, suicide is a selfish act. The mother in law of one of my boys went over the heads in Sydney a few years ago. She was horribly depressed and had been for years. The impact on our daughter in law was so bad it broke the marriage, they just could not cope. The damage in this poor woman's family was massive. I suppose we can't blame her for taking the dive, but boy it was at a high cost.
I can't help thinking that the moment we stop caring for one another is the moment the world stops being a good place. At a very low point for me a friend just said "you'll be right mate". It made a huge difference to me for some reason. If my mate thought I was going to be alright, it was probably true! Turned out he was right of course.
People who give, and care, and share, and support others seem to have a better and more stable life themselves. Regardless of their wealth or status, or the state they are in themselves. People who are strong for others, and share the burden of care, are usually strong in their own context and for their own loved ones.
Sorry to be so serious and preachy......I don't often admit it but I was a preacher (a pretty badly flawed one) in another life.

Macca you are a character! Keep it going mate.
I think there is a clear difference between what we understand as suicide: people under pressure and depressed and in pain taking a decision in desperate circumstances. And euthanasia, usually a decision taken calmly after long consideration, and in the face of a debilitating or painful disease. Euthanasia is controlled, unselfish, personal.
One article I read years ago really got to me. A professional Sydney couple, in their eighties but in good health, tidied the house, left notes for their children, and booked a sleeper on the Melbourne train. Sometime overnight they took some pills, and were discovered dead on arrival by railways staff in Melbourne. I guess they did not want their kids to find them and leave them with the mess.
I am a God botherer myself, and will leave the ending in His hands. But go ahead with the plan anytime you feel like it mate.
