we need to get new tyres for our Landcruiser 200 series. We tow a van for about 6 months of the year and do a bit of off-road driving as well. Any recommendations

Personally.
(Only Me.) On several Patrols and a 60 ser. (Plus others)
I've always stood by Bridgestone A\T 10pr wall tyres.
Differing patterns over the yrs.
697's at present.
Good on bitumin great grip. fair life. I change at 3\4 wear. normally 50 plus k.
Sand. Dirt roads. average bush etc.
GREAT on wet boat ramps.
One of the better all rounders.
Pirelli. good too.
PS. I carry bitumin tyres on a set of alloys. A\T's on a set of STEEL rims. for offroad.
Change to suit.

I know it's not a Landcruiser but I have what is in signature with Cooper AT3's as the boots BUT never again. Back to BFG A/T next time. I just don't think the Coopers grip is all that good. IMO.

Toyo Open Country AT2 - LT 285/65 17" Paid $300 each but if you shop around could probably get them for $275/280 ea.
Had for 20k with approx half that towing 3 tonne van.
Minimal wear and only very marginally noisier than the Grandtreks.

Like macka, I'm on my second set of Bridgestone 697s with my GU Patrol. The last set gave 50,000Kms & the car weighs 3t). Two friends have 100 series - one swears by Coopers, the other - BFGs.
I think it's a case of checking what is available in your area, selecting a good A/T pattern for the cost you can afford. On my GQ, in 300,000Kms, I only ran two sets the same - they were GT Radial, Savero pattern.
When I bought the GQ, the dealer had fitted "4WD wheels & tyres" - 15" Goodyear Wranglers. I wasn't impressed as they suffered rippling in the side walls, the tread blocks lifted in places but they went over some awful "roads" (including a very sharp rocky patch of the northern section of the Strzelecki track) without any punctures!
Toyo is another good brand & are quiet on the road.
Important - maintenance! Correct tyre pressures for the terrain you're driving on & regular rotation & balancing/wheel alignment.
Happy looking,
Warren

When I bought my Patrol , it had h/way tyres 275/65/17s . I have ordered a set of Micky Thompson ATs.
Will have them fitted when I get back from America in a month . Will let you know how they go.

Hi ABove.
If the H\T's still have decent tread. Roll them onto a pr of mag's
Then fit a set of A\T's on a set of "Steelies".
Mag's lighter. Steelies Stronger for off road.
Use them for towing. With the H\T's for normal bitumin work.
Unless you do off road work between towing stints..
I have both. Slipping the A\T's on when we go with van for a while.
Not often nowadays.
I check my tyres at every fill up. and rotate all 5 at every Service 10k.
Hey. Anybody know a place with decent priced Injector seal kits for a 2010 D-Max??.
Mine's overdue.

Sorry don't have 200 series but do have 100 series towing a 2750 kg ATM van.
Have Toyo Open Country HT (Highway Terrain) on the Landcruiser, in Light Truck rating. Have just gone to Open Country AT 2, also light truck, on the van.
Have 6 in the rotation for the cruiser, currently done 78000 kms between them, and have tread varying between 5 and 8 mm (for the last tyres purchase and original spare), so expect about another 20 to 30 k from them. Rotated each 10000 kms.
They are a reasonably aggressive Highway pattern and we have found them to be good on highway and performed well on dirt and sand, as well as on a couple of reasonable tough Flinders Ranges 4wd tracks (Sky Trek at Willow Springs Station and Arkapena at Rawnsley Park). Would recommend them without any concerns.

Believe this if you wish but true, just recently Ichanged the BFG from my 2010 200 ttd speedo 145 k two were date stamped 2010 and two stamped 2012. But I went back to coopers now because they make the correct size now for the cruiser, the difference in the vehicle is amazing at,s on my patrolswere always good for 90 k.

I have 2 very close contacts in the tyre industry.
Have used BFG for 12 years, great mileage on the first set, but the second set had chipped after 60,000 km
On the recommendation of both contacts I have now gone for Mickey Thompson both on the car and the van.
Only done 10,000 km so far, but very happy with them.
Both contacts steered me away from Coopers, even when one of them was a Coopers dealer.

What ever tyres you get, be aware if they are not exactly same tyre size in diameter your speedo will read higher or lower depending larger or smaller.
If you have a GPS system compare your speedo with the GPS.

Most
Standard Tyre SIZES Make your car read under\slower,
when compared to GPS. MFG"s Intentions.
IF you go next size dia UP. It normally makes them from around 6 or more, slow.
to 2km ish. or less.
Just bump up rolling Dia one step. Usually stays legal.
You ALLOWED 2 inches. by law.
I rarely ever look at car speedo.
have a map page and instrument page on my 6in GPS screen.
Locally.
I always use GPS screen and Autopilot. to keep me on limits.
Hic-cups are exxy nowadays.
For no reason. Other than negligence.

Have read of the above article is is very informative.
We have had Toyo AT2 on our LC200 cruiser for 28,000k of which about 20,000km has been towing a 2.5 tonne off road van.
They are a good tyre, we are very pleased with them.
