Hi Jock,  

Thanks mate and yes the 'Cape' is one of the many special places around OZ on my 'Loop road' adventure.  I have previously managed to clock up 28,000km last year in a motorhome in my effort to circumnavigate this great country of ours.  Since selling the M/H for a more versatile rig I purchased a 1996 4x4 Toyota Hilux tray top ute.  Fitting it with an 'Active Camper' I began exploring the inland part of OZ.  

In July of this year I headed out to Birdsville for the 'BIG RED BASH' concert an odyssey trip of 4,800km.   Starting at Brissy, & heading out to Mitchell, Longreach, Winton I took the Diamantina dirt track to Bedourie onto Birdsville. After travelling to Cameron's Corner and Tiboburra, (still on dirt) I headed onto Bourke via the Strzelecki track.  

Except for a perished 'O'ring in my fuel filter (its replacement cost $20) I am back in Queensland without any further issues.  A great testing ground for an 'old girl' (meaning my Toyota of course!!) Ha ha!   Safe travels everyone....       Gwynnie

Hi guys,  I travelled through to the Cape in July on my way around on the 'loop road' last year.  I hope to be back up your way in November as I am visiting family in Townsville. GO THE COWBOYS... Better not mention the 'Melbourne Storm's' win over them  while I am up there if I hope to get back to Caboolture hey!!!  

Hellloooo again,  I spent a few weeks on the Gold Coast staying at the lovely Tallebudgera Creek Caravan Park, what a fabulous spot it was too!!  ( see photos)   Tomorrow I am heading up the QLD coast towards Mackay & Townsville for a couple of weeks.  Here on the Sunshine Coast it is overcast but warm, so should be good travelling weather... I will post some photos as I go.  Happy travels  Gwynnie

Helloooo all, the weather in Bundaberg QLD had some showers this morning I took some shots of the sunrise before then rain came down, but cleared up to a brilliant sunny day great for fishing...of course the BIG one snapped the line and got away   ...seriously.. I had to go to BCF and buy a bigger fishing rig they grow rather large up here...Good luck for tomorrow....Gwynnie

I left the FNQ (Townsville) yesterday for South due to weather and thought I would be clever and skip around the problem areas by heading inland to Charters Towers, Clermont and Emerald.  However after heading further south the rain managed to catch-up at Rolleston and by Biloela it was bucketing down relentlessly.  However that was not the worst of it as the Catchfish Creek bridge, just 55 km west of Gladstone, had risen so high the authorities closed the road until further notice. 

So I doubled back to a place called 'BANANNA" and headed south via the LEICHARDT HWY to come east again near Miles.  Both the BOYNE and the Calliope rives are on 'Major flood alert.'  It was dark by this and I had to be mindful of every Floodway & River crossings I came across when finally I came across a bush camp o/n at

Hey Dunmowin, all good and not taking any chances but thanks for the well wishes,     At this time I am travelling in a convoy with the boys in their 'Big Trucks' and they are all watching out for me!  

Good morning, finally made it into Miles after a harrowing fifteen hours travelling inland QLD.  Managed to sidestep some rather scarey moments...found myself in a quandary by some confusing road signs. 

Tootling along in the pouring rain I happened upon a new bridge construction site with a 'closed road' sign across the road.  There was a 'detour' sign next to it, so thinking this must be the temporary road I began to follow the signage.  However the detour road soon began to get rather steep, slippery and muddy so I ventured out and turned my toyota hubbs into 4X4 and geared into L4 to continue. 

Imagine my surprise as I found myself heading down towards a rather rapidly flowing swollen river.  Realising I had to back up the hill rather quickly without panicking I began reversing .  After a few daring moments of 'slip sliding around' I managed my vehicle back to the bitinum again and was met by some rather bemused workman saying, "thought we'd have to come and pull you out missie, what made you head down there anyway, didn't you see the closed road sign?"

My reply:- "Yes, but I was just following your instructions mate!  I think your road signs are rather ambiguous, don't you think?"  

Their reply:-  "AHHHH  rather whodda...whata..ambrigusssss?  what do you mean Missie?"  

My reply:-   Sorry fellas.. I mean't to say rather confusing, perhaps it would be better to cover-up the 'detour sign' to save other travellers making the same mistake hey!"

With a shrug of their shoulders they said with full confidence, "the water is 3 feet over the road and won't be reopening 'agin until toemorah mornin' at the earliest missie, so you may need to double back and camp in town tonight hey!!"   

Just another day on the 'full of surprises roads' of this great country of ours, love it, never a dull moment hey!!!  Gwynnie  

Well done Gwynnie, you did good to get your self out of that sticky situation. Keep safe, still wet in this area.
