We used our stove a couple of nights ago (the electric element) to cook our dinner. It cooled down but then the whole glass panel cracked/crazed. Has anyone else had similar troubles? The panel is in two pieces - the front one with two gas rings on it, the rear with the electric plate & one gas ring. I'll take it to a repair place in Toowoomba as we're down "enjoying" the cool weather again.

WOW - that usually happens when they are put down on a hot burner - or previously dropped, we used to make glass topped tables, dropped one of the round pieces down the front steps, luckily it it's upright position so landed on it's edge - glazier told us it could break at any time, even from a simple knock by the vacuum cleaner -
we got another top for that table.

They had a problem with them at one stage,was not enough clearance from the element,
had a recall to put some spacers in from memory.
yours maybe one of the affected units worth while enquiring.

Yes friends had a 2012 Jayco and the stove top was replaced under a recall in either 2013 or 2014

Jeff, Bill, thanks. I'll chase it up on Monday; our van is a 2011 model. There appears to be minimal gap between the element & the glass.

Warren we have a 2011 Jayco from new. Our glass (under the burners and hot plate) blew up in 2012 the first time we went to use the 240V hot plate. The stove was replaced under warranty. The dealer told us that ours was the first to explode in Queensland and that others were starting to explode right across Australia. It,is a well-known problem with that particular stove around that vintage. Good luck.

I contacted Jayco (Townsville) this morning. They said it is a known problem but there was no recall; Jayco would supply parts but the owners were to pay the labour. They said the stove will operate ok without the glass. Perhaps, I'll hit the other with a hammer to make both sides the same. By the way it broke, it appears to be safety glass.

I believe the stove has to come out to replace the glass and shim the element.
so not sure it will be a cheap repair,maybe Jayco will help with costs.

Ours shattered in 2012 . Jayco said take it to your nearest dealer and it will be fixed at no cost. They said the hot plate is raised to provide clearance. Do not pay contact Jayco.

Thanks for your info - I contacted Jayco Melbourne who put me on to Dometic.
After having an informed discussion with a very helpful person there (will be done under their service warranty), I've been in touch with a company in Toowoomba who are willing to do the job. I'm just waiting for the email from Dometic - from there, it's about a week.
I've managed to get most of the shattered glass out - will remove the rest today (I took photos of it first).

We have a 2011 Jayco Conquest motorhome with the same stove - we are extremely careful to make sure our hotplates and burners are COLD before we put the glass lid down.
And yes - safety glass will shatter if it has been dropped, something dropped on it, the burners aren't cold, you put something extremely hot on top of the glass. Sometimes not straight away - friend dropped a up onto their stove top, sigh of relief nothing broke- but two weeks later. putting it down, dropped it - SMASH SHATTER!
