I just purchased a 2nd hand Landcruiser which has an exhisting 350Amp Anderson plug. Can somebody tell me what this would be used for? I'm thinking of removing it if I don't have any need for it.
many thanks

Maybe for a winch? That is a very high current plug, and about the only thing that draws heaps of current is an electric winch. Where is the plug located?

It's near the towbar on the back.

Probably just something the previous owner had lying around in their shed and figured it will do. My father in law was an electrician and for the trailer plug on his box trailer he used a 3 pin electrical plug - park, stop and earth. This was before blinkers were common.
Good Luck.

I've seen some pretty heavy plugs on fitters vehicles for jump starting equipment with 24v systems. There'd be a couple of big batteries in the back wired up as the 24v supply. There'd be a matching plug on the equipment.

Probably a left over from a bored DIY retirees meddling. Get rid of it & visit an Auto Electrician to trace the wiring for your peace of mind.

It would be a 50 amp grey Anderson plug to supply power to a campertrailer or caravan to charge it's batteries.

They are often put on mining vehicles. Used to jumpstart others Or power lighting.

Most likely used for a boat winch.

I'm more curious in what size cable is in the plug?

Hmm, have to agree with what hako said earlier... was probably something left lying around that would do the job... or words to that effect.

I have 400A Anderson plugs front and rear of the OKA for a movable winch.
But it also has 50mm2 cables to it.
