I've stayed there many times. Never seen a platypus. That's fantastic. Will look harder next time.

Buggar! We were there a few weeks ago and saw jumping fish but no platypus. Would have loved to see it. We also saw 40 horses being herded down the road. The lookout was great (dont take the van), great town. Nice morning pancakes at the pub.

No, it's here. Travellers use the north south road through it when looking for an alternative to the New England or Newell Highways. They go down through Texas, which is not shown on the map.

Stayed at both Bingara & Texas (freebie) last year. Couldn't find the free camp on the river. The local map was upside down so we found out after booking into the pay park. The biggest hill I've ever driven up is at Bingara. Fantastic view.

Rusty, Where is that hill? I did not see any hills worth talking about on the Fossickers Way (the main road.)

Watched the platypus again today whilst having brekkie and morning tea be sorry to leave tomorrow
I'l have to try that some time. The only time I went through I just used the River Stop for a lunch stop. It does not seem like vans would be welcome up at the lookout.

Can park a van up there but I'd never attempt to tow one up or down. Scary with a van behind coming down.

Two easy & reliable places to see Platypus in their natural habitat, both in VIC.
1. Early morning in the Genoa River below the old road bridge adjacent to the Genoa 'free/donation'' camp.
2. In the Glenelg River early morning & late afternoon at Fulham Streamside Reserve near Balmoral. They frolic right outside your caravan, good free camping beside river.

It's off the Copeton Dam rd just a few Kms out of town. Apex Lookout Rd I think it is. www.travelling-australia.info/Journal2015/15may.html
