From recent reports, Cooktown in Far North Queensland, experienced a bumper winter season accommodating the Winter Nomads & others. However on follow up, the following was received.
"The free camping will be changing for Archer Point soon there may not be allowed camping on the beach area until management plans are implemented. Another thing that is in our Cook shire Local laws is that all dogs are to be restrained at all times, especially on the beach areas where there are a number of families / people using the area. Campers must contact Yuku Baja Muliku for permission to camp and our rangers monitor the beach / camping areas on a daily basis. There are some bins in place but we do ask for people to be aware that they may have to take rubbish with them when they leave, plus no cutting down of trees for firewood.

Interesting
We camped there last week, hardly anyone there. On ringing land owners for permit, was told not issuing permits at the moment due to low numbers.
Bins should be taken away so you have to take out your rubbish.
I at first thought "where is the beach at Archer river"...... showing my age....
