Hello....new member...nice to be on board. Just a quick question please if anyone can help.
My wife and I heading off from Melbourne to Kiama very soon, I was hoping someone might be able to help me with the best route to take.
We are towing a 21ft van and was going to take the Hume Hway to the Illawara Hway then across to Kiama.
The Illawara Hway does look a bit tight on the maps though as you head towards Kiama.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Greg.....

G'day gebeynon and welcome to the forum. Don't forget to try the two ongoing games here - 'Who is This' in the 'I Digress' section and 'Pick this Place' in the 'General' Section - a great source to find new places to visit.
Not too many folks check out this section so best to ask that in the general section. Wrong side of the island for us I'm afraid :)

Hi Greg and welcome to the forum, with regard to your trip to Kiama the route down the Illawarra highway is windy and reasonably steep in parts there are areas where you can pull off to let traffic pass on the way down.
I last travelled down this way about 2 years ago towing my 21' van behind the Pajero I engaged 4 wheel drive and used the engine as a break using car brakes as well, it is an attractive drive you just need to be careful and ensure you dont overheat the brakes.
If you look on Google maps there are three ways down probably the easiest way is the one going down closest to the Sydney end much less steep and good wide highway all the way, finally dont take the road through Kangaroo Valley with the van.
Hope you have a great trip

I was in that area in late 2013, early 2014, towing a 17 foot caravan
I would suggest the Princess Highway
It is busier, but from memory it was mostly a duel carriageway, so there is plenty of opportunities for others to pass
