Thanks Stretch. It was raining when it happened so I thought I
will ask here and have a closer look in the morning.

I have a suspicion that you have flushed out a nozzle from a cleaning apparatus. Is it possible that someone has lost " that inside the HWS previously? Cheers, Steve

At another guess it may be the tubing that directs the water from the blow off valve out and away from the water heater area. I have seen some with red tubing and others with white tubing.
The tube usually goes from the valve tthrough a hole to the outside and it points to the ground.

When ever I pull something apart & put it back together, there is always a part left over.
Maybe that what is is.

There is a tube in there that can get knocked off if the wrong size anode is used, just can't recall what it does, check the surburban site as I think thats where I read about it.

Further investigation has shown that it is the cold water inlet pipe. When it was broken is anyone's guess!! So, I feel just put it back together and double check no leaks.
Decided to check the anode today. Guess who forgot to release the pressure. Yep, me.
I got a little wet.
This plastic tube came out as well I think. Anyone know where it goes and what it does please.
