Hey everyone, If anyone is around Normanton on Thursday please drop in to the library (Cnr Landsborough and Caroline St) and say hi 11:30 - 1:30. (we'll be putting on lunch too!!)
We're here in Normanton for the week teaching science at the high school as a part of National Science Week.
We thought we'd also put on a bit of an interactive microbiology display at the library - showing off some agar plates the kids at the school have inoculated.
A little bit about myself and my co-host.
My name is Vicky and I'm a third year Medical Laboratory Science student at QUT. I grew up in Cairns and now work in a histology laboratory in Brisbane - so if you ever want to know anything about the process behind diagnosing cancers then come and have a talk to me! I'm going to have heaps of examples of tissues for you to have a look at down the microscope as well. :)
Co-host is Ray and he is a Chartered Engineer doing a PhD in flow dynamics involved in heart bypass surgery! So if you have kids/grandkids interested in becoming an engineer then please stop by and ask him about all the amazing career opportunities.
Sadly, I am at the other end of the country currently otherwise I would be there.
Are you going to show them how to blow things up? That's always the best way to get children interested in science I have found :)

Good Stuff Vicky and I wish you luck. Before I retired I attended many shows with the Bureau of Met trying to get the science message through...we rarely noticed any 'immediate' results but figured maybe we'd planted the seed.
Good Luck.
