Hello, has anyone purchased the "Adventure" brand extendable towing mirrors advertised on Ebay for around $345 and if so any comments on quality, performance etc. At $345, they are a lot less expensive than the Clearview brand.

Hi RR, I had to have a look for myself as I have never heard of them.
They look the same as my clearview so see no problem. That said, I noticed on the add the image showed had indicators but it also said the mirror supplied didn't. Just make sure if your excisting mirror has indicators you must by law replace with a mirror with indicators so make sure if you order them they have the Indicators.
Hope they work out for you because as you said, they are a lot cheaper.

Thanks Douge, my vehicle is a 100 series Landcruiser so no indicators etc on the mirrors to concerned with. Considering the wide gap in price vs the Clearview and the fact the Adventure brand look identical it could suggest they come out of the same factory in China?. I think I will take a risk and part with $345 vs the odd $800 Clearview are asking. Having said that, a friend once told me that a poor man pays twice. Regards RR

Hi if you go to Clearview web site they have second hand ones for sale I bought a set for $350 for my Pajero

Hi Road Runner,
Just wondering if you went ahead with the purchase of the Extendable Towing Mirrors. I have come across them on eBay and am attracted by the price, compared to the ClearView mirrors.
If you did go ahead with them, do you recommend them?

Hi Greg, it all got too hard so now reverting back to the seat belt type mirrors that clip to the top and bottom of the doors. Spent some time adjusting and tightening the mirror heads so they dont move and all in all they are pretty good and offer reasonable side vision etc. The Clearview type are winners in terms of functionality however I would think a nuisance when not towing particularly when in car parks etc. Regards Eddy

I find that the best way to get the straps tensioned is to wet them. I use a discarded singlet to wash the door where the mirror goes before fitting them (a day or two of driving will add enough dust to help rub the surface off your paint if you don't pre wash.) I fit the mirror to one side at a time. I wash the door, then fit the mirror and then wring the rag out so the discarded water runs down over the strap. After fitting the second mirror I go back again and run some more water over the straps to thoroughly wet them. A few minutes later (generally when I go to hitch up) the straps are hanging a bit loose. I then tension them again.
If you do that each time you will not have any mirrors come loose problems if and when you run into a rain shower. The other thing I do is to hold the detent down whilst tensioning the straps. If you let the detents click away as you tension then you will ware the cog pieces. This way I have not had to replace the winders after 17 years of use where as some friends have had to replace there ones before 10 years use.

I tried 3 different types of strap on mirrors including a magnetic type set but frankly found they were a Pain in the back side to set up and adjust. The Clearview type Extendable Towing Mirrors can be adjusted via your vehicle electric mirror adjustment switch. I have no issues in car parks and in any case you can easily fold them in if needed.
Even though I bought a second hand set I mentioned the high cost to a mate of mine who imports products and he has got a container of Extendable Towing Mirrors arriving in a couple of weeks from now. He only deals in High Quality Items so you can be assured of quality. He also has some portable fridges and I know his prices will be very competitive. No stock yet but check on eBay in about 3-4 weeks time His store is called ozzdeal and he is based in Dural NSW
