Hi, we have had our motor home for 3 years and are now thinking of buying a caravan. We have enjoyed the motor home and have had lots of adventures but we need to have a less expensive alternative. Can anyone advise us on what we should look for please.

Hi .. A good start would be to go to The Grey Nomads Home Page ('Click here for the Grey Nomads website' .. on the tool bar above) .. select 'Your Rig' & then 'Choosing a rig'.

Hi there ... I'm of the same mind as the others... Don't know if it actually will be cheaper... Two registrations, two insurances etc but if you are a one car couple then it does release a normal car both to tow with and to drive around ... If your motor home sits around doing nothing between trips and you drive another around during normal life then I would agree that it would be considerably cheaper to run one car and one caravan ...
As regards to what to go for ... That totally depends on how many people and for how long. ... Two people for trips say lasting 4-8 weeks at a time ... Best is 21-23 feet ... That is in fact the most popular van size anyway and terrific amount of vans to choose from .. Most choose non pop tops as full size vans are booth cooler and warmer as conditions dictate.
Most folk upgrade their first van within two years anyway as they sort out what they really want so don't be too choosy, cause you'll probably change your ideas anyway ....
Cheers

Another thing that sometimes gets forgotten is a persons age and level of fitness. I've had a van in the past but as I've got older and the arthritis has caught up with me I've swapped to a motorhome. In my case it's just not an option. I no longer have the ability to hitch' unhitch and manoeuvre a van despite what my brain says

Both have their advantages.
Caravans for over 50 yrs myself.
IF I buy anything after this one. It will be a 26\27ft motorhome. We have 2 cars. 2 boats 6x4 and a van on the road now,
Plus an unregisterable fun truck \Trailer, too.
so won't make much difference.
