1st timers southward bound - checking out camp sites towing a 20ft van and curious about how easy the road is en route to and camping around Lakes Entrance. Places like Genoa, Mallacoota, Marlo Beach, Orbost, Bairnsdale.......free/low cost/van parks. etc., Open to all suggestions help greatly appreciated.

Great donation camp at Genoa, not free. Nice small free camps scattered along the Snowy River between Orbost & Marlo, could be boggy at this time of the year though. Commercial CPs at Bairnsdale, Marlo & Mallacoota. Huge popular foreshore CP at Mallacoota owned by the Shire of East Gippsland. Large expensive basic campground at Cape Conran east of Marlo right on the surf beach, bring your beanie & gloves. Free camp on Lake Wellington at Marlay Pt between Sale & Bairnsdale nice but probably very windy at this time of the year. East Gippsland Shire are pretty much against free camping.

Wellington shire have free/cheap options - believe its on their website. Glass House on Lake Tyers is a good free camp in fine weather. Access is from the eastern side of NowaNowa. Paynesville a few k's from Bairnsdale is nice to visit.

Harry, I note you are travelling with dogs. The Banksia Bluff campground is in the Cape Conran Coastal Park. The park has the usual no dog rule but dogs are permitted in half the sites in the campground. They must be restrained to that section of the campground. - Camping Sites - There is also a complicated fee structure.
