Calling all Grey people who have any knowledge of someone in the Burpengary area of QLD who could carry out an expert inspection of a caravan my Wife and I wish to purchase. The rig is a Geist XK559 and it looks OK. However, as first time owners of a caravan our knowledge of the matter is almost zero. Any advice in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Nobby

Scan the internet for the Brand / Model and you will probably find things to look for in an inspection. Check insurance as Geist is fully imported which can make a difference.

Suggest you check the chassis. There is plenty on the net about chassis cracking with this brand. Not just here but in the UK also.

Look for a cracks in the chassis & A-frame. A member of our family had the same caravan. It cost a lot of money to get the chassis reinforced after lots of cracks were discovered. It had never been off the bitumen. A year after having that done the A-frame broke at around 80kph & the caravan ended up in a roadside drain. They had that all repaired & sold it on Gumtree. They now have an off-road On The Move caravan. Geist caravans are no longer imported into Australia.

Chassis cracks were mainly in the 660 series and to a certain degree only in the tandem vans.
There is a Facebook site called Geist and Euro Imported RV Owners where owners will gladly pass on information, including honest comments on possible problems.
We had a Geist LV485 for eleven years with many trips from Hobart to Queensland by varying routes including up the centre, gravel roads, etc and can honestly say that nothing ever cracked or fell off at any time. Cannot say the same for the Aussie van we had previously.
There are a number of caravan specialists around the country specializing in Geist and other European imports.

G'day Nobby,
Regardless as to what brand you buy, pay particular attention to the compliance plate & the weight you are allowed to carry. I received a shock last week - with both water & gas tanks full, minimal clothing & enough food for a weekend, I'm 100Kg over weight!

I hear what you say, we always seem to pack way too much, so that will have to change.
