i have seen in camping shops a simple wire device holder with what looks like a stainless steel mesh attached to its base for making morning toast. Can anyone tell me how it is used and if it's ant good?

They are excellent.
Having said that: Keep the gas low Watch them like a hawk - forget it for 15 seconds at your toast's peril! Turn and move the bread regularly Buy a couple of extra mesh pieces - they slowly burn out The toast sits on the wires not the on the mesh - mesh to gas

Agree with Mike; Great little toaster but plays havoc with smoke alarm.
Try a different approach (This is Child-brides favourite), spray your bread with Olive oil spray then pan fry. Top with poached eggs or pan-fried mushrooms.

I have used one of these for years, even before I got a van, love the taste of the toast.

You can also make great toast with a non stick pan - this is now my preferred method and all the crumbs etc are contained unlike the wire toaster mentioned here which I had before I discovered the non stick pan method.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Mike your reply was exactly what I was looking for. I have since purchased the toaster and used it as you have recommended, it's excellent . Possum3 for years I have cooked toast as you have suggested in a cast iron pan but you know sometimes it's nice to have crispy toast and not always did the pan method work for me. One more thing I have a companion parrot. An Eclectus male. Cooking in a non stick pan would kill him within seconds thanks to the toxic fumes from that sort of pan.

We've been using them for years, the only way to go we reckon. We use one in the caravan & in the kitchen back home. Doesn't dry the toast out making it like eating a piece of cardboard.
