ok....I'm pretty annoyed....I've been in this 'basic' park for a while. Everything was ok until a few weeks ago when the usual people came back. From the first time i saw one of them I got a 'vibe'. I couldn't work out what it was about. Once I got told while paying next week fees 'we'd normally put people on a permanent site where you pay for power' (I'm paying for a powered site). I continued to get asked 'is your power ok?' - I said 'unless I'm actually using 240v I wouldn't know' (I obviously have batts, solar and everything 12v based other than micro, washing machine and aircon). So I get to realise, the guy next to me in a camper trailer thing is heaviy reliant on 240v and boofing the power all the time, however upon talking to him and my deductions of my conversations with this owner.......I'm getting blamed for the excess power usage!!!
This place is totally NON COMPLIANT to any basic legal requirements regarding 15amp power and is slinging power cords, joined up off 10amp - and you want to see the beauty pictures I got of the vans hooked up to the one outlet today. Pity the people that aren't aware of legalities and their vans burn down.....but my personal gripe is that the stupid b$&:@ is going around telling everyone it's MY FAULT!!! cos my van is big. (She who's batteries never even get out of float until someone boofs the power and she who knows every milliamp that passes through this van).
Im going to give them a reaming on wikicamps.......but I'd just like the parting words so they can get their head out of their arses and realise 'big vans' aren't always their enemies - in fact....we're better than people who don't understand power and don't have battery and solar to work from.

Hahaha - the boil just burst... neighbour popped power again....so I went out and confronted the mele and gave them all some power lessons.....and pointed out the others that had set up their own 15a reducer LPO (of all things) with their....wait for it.....filed down 15a leads going into it.
I was still made to feel a bit like an 'OTT' person....being told by owners 'it may be illegal, but it's not dangerous'.
Well....I'll be a monkeys uncle.....
oh it was made up by a sparky in cairns tho!!! So it must be ok.......

dont take sh... from nobody . On the other side of the coin we manage caravan parks and I
would never , not discuss an issue with someone staying if I had concerns , but I certainly wouldn't do what they are
doing to you. If they complied with legal requirements they would not have a filed down 15A cord .
If they test & tagged they would be failed , I have done the course and its a big NO .
Tell them your going to report it to the approp. authority and put the wind up them.

Hi Grubby. I find the best way to deal with these miscreants is to keep them guessing. If they have done this to you then it would be a fair guess they do it to others and have heard all the threats of retribution. If you really want to annoy them say nothing and smile at them. Walk around with your camera and pretend to take photos of things in the park, things like power cords or amenities, drains, laundry and take a little bit of paper and a pen and pretend to be making notes to support your pretend photos.
When you are leaving just tell them that you did not enjoy your stay nor their attitude and that you intend to take steps to ensure it does not happen to someone in the future, who does not have a robust personality like yourself.
Leave them guessing as to what you are going to do. It will drive them spare. Once you tell someone where you are going to direct your complaints they are forewarned and forearmed.
They will stew on it for weeks wondering who might be coming to investigate this "complaint"

I must be missing something here
From my reading and understanding of Grubby's initial post is that "Everything was ok until a few weeks ago when the usual people came back" to an apparently poorly run and shoddy van park and said "we'd normally put people on a permanent site where you pay for power" and ask "is your power ok?". Grubby considers they are ALLUDING to an excessive power and that it is due to his "big van".
I am not sure what they have "done" to him.
Grubby FEELS that he is being victimised and blamed for the 'excessive' usage of the van park - a considerable stretch ... unless the only occupants are Grubby and the camper-trailer neighbour.
One would have thought that rather than have this angst build up to the point of needing to vent on a forum or until the time of departure, one would simply take the matter up calmly with these 'returned' owners and invite them to see how Grubby's van uses power. Perhaps I am simplistic, but one would assume this could be resolved amicably - if indeed a problem actually exists.
I consider it of FAR greater importance that the condition of the facilities and the provision of power to sites etc were reported. Indeed if these are as bad as Grubby indicates than I would NOT have remained so long or continue to put my property and self at risk - I would have left there some time ago rather than continue to be a "semi-permanent" in apparently such unsafe conditions.
Indeed if such conditions do exist, rather than pretending to take photos and taking fake notes and vaguely suggesting, on departure, that "you intend to take steps to ensure it does not happen to someone in the future", the park and its conditions should be reported immediately.
Just my opinion obviously and I can only arrive at this opinion from the initial post and Grubby's comments.

I read that, when the managers returned they assumed (as others have and did) that Grubby was abusing his entitlement of power, how I don't know,but they inferred it and then said he should be on a permanent site, where I assume it would have been metered. In short Grubby was treated badly in my view by being accused of something that never happened.Grubby seen it has been an unpleasant situation, just move on and if the topic comes up mention it to fellow travelers.

From what little I know of caravan parks, (my brother in law, lives as a permanent in one) The permanent residents pay less site fees, but they pay for all the power they have used
If I was using from little to no 240 volt power, I would have taken them up on their offer of a permanent site, (if the site fees were cheaper)
Hope that I have not opened a can of worms

Perfect spot. Shopping complex there now.
They ALL have the responsibility of supplying safe tripped power.
PLUS.
Ensuring everybody using correct Ticketed,plugged cable with no joiners.
For the safety of ALL.

Ok....let me try to be more clear on this..... I neither want to have a go at them or dob them in.....I just wanted to know the best way to let them know that just because it's a big van, doesn't mean it's using more power. The opposite is occurring, however they are thinking along the lines that it's the bigger van taking the power. A. I wasn't even noticing the guy boofing the power out before, because I am so set up with 12v and solar that my battery's don't even go out of float mode (until he boofs the power). He on the other hand is relying totally on 240v 24/7 and doesn't have an understanding of power. So we are sharing a breaker....which is broken at 15amp....so therefore we get 7.5amp each until someone overloads it (which is 99% of the time him - I've done it once when I did forget and do toaster and kettle together). So as far as I can see....the owners have just made the assumption 'big van, her fault' when the opposite is true. The other issues were just me pointing out the people the other side - that were all (3 vans) connected to a 10amp camp kitchen LPO. So, because it kept boofing they took it upon themselves to install their own (made by an electrician - obviously not a reputable one) LPO that plugs into the 15amp - is a 10amp LPO - that then takes their filed down 15amp leads!!! I just find it insulting to the core that I'm probably the only one here with any electrical respect, yet they are (were possibly) blaming me for all the issues. They reckoned they hadn't, but I can't understand why she would of been continually asking me about power and saying I had to go on a permanent site (when I'm not a permanent) to pay for power seperately if she didn't think by default I was using too much power. So I think she's lying to cover her behind there. I have a caravan park also...so I'm fully aware of how it works. Like I said, I don't want to argue with them, I just wanted to educate them with facts, and the way I see it if my battery charger never gets out of float - I'm producing enough of my own solar charge to adequately cover my general usage (watching tv etc) until I actually use a 240v appliance. I just feel it's wrong they're in the game and know s&$; from clay and try making other people feel bad. Thankfully I'm due to go on Thursday, and I hopefully won't be in another caravan park for a very long time.

Yes they were and A. It wasn't that busy and B. Like I said, she has just apparently taken a disliking to the fact I have a big van (because she *thinks* I'm using more power). I just believe they need to see the truth. There is only one aspect of my van that would be a disadvantage to her...and that's is that I have a washing machine thus not putting 5 bucks in theirs. Other than that....she'd be saving money on my van usuage compared to the neighbor.

Well.....if these others can't see the harm they're doing....well......
i tried explpaining it to them all last night and they think everything is ok because a sparky made their adapter and because now their 3 vans don't boof it out too much - everything is ok. Like talking to brick walls. Probabl, especially that I'm female - probably thinking I know nothing. I wonder what people think circuit breakers are for? Unbelievable.
Theyd all have insurance dramas if the proverbial hits the fan.

Furthermore its not too often a van will trip 15 amps out on the RCD , so whats ur mate next door running if ur using next to nothing .
Besides all that more than likely ur paying the daily tariff including power and water , so they are financially covered anyway.
Its more likely that they dont like coming out of the office to fix up their inadequate plant .

I came for a week (to this park - not the area), ended up staying 3 - then realised the Finke dessert race was on so decided to stay for that. So I think it's 6 weeks I've been here. On a powered site (Paying for). I really wish I'd just free camped on the track now - although I woulda been getting all the dust off the van as well as the tug.
I won't be going back to my own anytime soon as I'm travelling. Maybe in a year or two - boyfriend got it.
yes I use the power to wash with (although I'm sparing with the washing atm as there's something wrong with my washing machine). The power would be the same and water whether I used theirs or not - it's just I'm not putting 5 bucks in to their machine.
Boofing means tripping the power out.

I know exactly what it should be, and I'm seething that I kept quiet about the tripping In the first place - but as I said it doesn't affect me as I'm NOT using too much 240v - despite them thinking I am by default of owning a 24.5ft van.
Hes running everything (fridge etc) as well as electric heater, kettle and TV etc on 240v. So he's more than taking the 15amp, plus there was no problem before he came.
Yes...my point....I AM paying for a powered site - so why should I have to go off to another site and pay for power? If they were cheaper I'd be happy to - but I don't know anyways - and like I said am leaving Thursday and am not a permanent - nor have I seen anything or been told that after a certain duration you become "permanent rates".
Shes also weird on water.....I was changing my anode the other day and she was concerned with me flushing the system.
Yes....last night it tripped their house as well......so they just need to get a sparky in and get it set up properly.
Oh and it's almost like despite paying for power you're told not to use electric items lol.....like last night she was trying to tell me not to use my hot plate and that I could use my gas heater instead of my other one.....lol....yeah if I wasn't paying for power.

I think I've covered most of these in the subsequent posts - but it wasn't as busy when I was first here - and the tripping only started when he got here a week and a half ago. I think from when she saw me first (two weeks ago) she had it in her mind a big van must be using power - I must get her to pay for it on top of the fees. So it was only the second last time I paid she'd said about this having to pay extra for power and since then this guy came and started Knocking the power out 3 times a night.
I only decided to stay for the finke - and all the parks were full and I didn't know the state of the trackside free camping. I will know next time however and I'll only ever call into the Showgrounds for a night or so to top up batteries and water. If there is a next time - the town driving me mad by now too....

Lo behold I walk out and there's a van backed in behind mine with a 1/2 a metre cord hanging from its inlet, joined to another longer ext cord and run over to the 10amp camp kitchen LPO. Wonder what campers will do when they want to make dinner lol. Probably a heap of double adapters and power boards there.
They're either really dumb or they're doing exactly as they please, seeing as they know the rules now.
No way they'd be hooking my van up like that.

Indeed if these are as bad as Grubby indicates than I would NOT have remained so long or continue to put my property and self at risk - I would have left there some time ago rather than continue to be a "semi-permanent" in apparently such unsafe conditions.
Indeed if such conditions do exist, rather than pretending to take photos and taking fake notes and vaguely suggesting, on departure, that "you intend to take steps to ensure it does not happen to someone in the future", the park and its conditions should be reported immediately.
Just my opinion obviously and I can only arrive at this opinion from the initial post and Grubby's comments.

Yes Rocky, that may well be the sensible thing to do. However, Grubby wanted a way to give them a parting shot and also some self satisfaction. As I read the post I didn't think that Grubby wanted to become the caravan park morals police.
The only parting shot is to pack up and leave and report them to the authorities. Messing with electricity is dangerous and someone could get killed.

If the van park's electrical arrangements are so bad and dangerous ... even if one didn't want to assume the role of "morals police" ... why stay there for an extended time AND continue to stay there - but with angst in one's soul.

From what little I know of caravan parks, (my brother in law, lives as a permanent in one)
The permanent residents pay less site fees, but they pay for all the power they have used
If I was using from little to no 240 volt power, I would have taken them up on their offer of a permanent site, (if the site fees were cheaper)

Up in Darwin we went on "Permanent sites" (in a park that don't exist anymore)
Every 3ish month stint we went up there for.
Perfect base for the area.
everybody paid the same and it covered ALL usage.
OFF the line of incoming planes. Just off main drag.
PO collection agent on opposite corner of lights
Perfect spot. Shopping complex there now.
They ALL have the responsibility of supplying safe tripped power.
PLUS.
Ensuring everybody using correct Ticketed,plugged cable with no joiners.

Ok....let me try to be more clear on this.....
I neither want to have a go at them or dob them in.....I just wanted to know the best way to let them know that just because it's a big van, doesn't mean it's using more power. The opposite is occurring, however they are thinking along the lines that it's the bigger van taking the power.
A. I wasn't even noticing the guy boofing the power out before, because I am so set up with 12v and solar that my battery's don't even go out of float mode (until he boofs the power). He on the other hand is relying totally on 240v 24/7 and doesn't have an understanding of power. So we are sharing a breaker....which is broken at 15amp....so therefore we get 7.5amp each until someone overloads it (which is 99% of the time him - I've done it once when I did forget and do toaster and kettle together). So as far as I can see....the owners have just made the assumption 'big van, her fault' when the opposite is true.
The other issues were just me pointing out the people the other side - that were all (3 vans) connected to a 10amp camp kitchen LPO. So, because it kept boofing they took it upon themselves to install their own (made by an electrician - obviously not a reputable one) LPO that plugs into the 15amp - is a 10amp LPO - that then takes their filed down 15amp leads!!!
I just find it insulting to the core that I'm probably the only one here with any electrical respect, yet they are (were possibly) blaming me for all the issues.
They reckoned they hadn't, but I can't understand why she would of been continually asking me about power and saying I had to go on a permanent site (when I'm not a permanent) to pay for power seperately if she didn't think by default I was using too much power. So I think she's lying to cover her behind there.
I have a caravan park also...so I'm fully aware of how it works.
Like I said, I don't want to argue with them, I just wanted to educate them with facts, and the way I see it if my battery charger never gets out of float - I'm producing enough of my own solar charge to adequately cover my general usage (watching tv etc) until I actually use a 240v appliance.
I just feel it's wrong they're in the game and know s&$; from clay and try making other people feel bad.
Thankfully I'm due to go on Thursday, and I hopefully won't be in another caravan park for a very long time.

Yes they were and A. It wasn't that busy and B. Like I said, she has just apparently taken a disliking to the fact I have a big van (because she *thinks* I'm using more power). I just believe they need to see the truth. There is only one aspect of my van that would be a disadvantage to her...and that's is that I have a washing machine thus not putting 5 bucks in theirs. Other than that....she'd be saving money on my van usuage compared to the neighbor.
Well.....if these others can't see the harm they're doing....well......
i tried explpaining it to them all last night and they think everything is ok because a sparky made their adapter and because now their 3 vans don't boof it out too much - everything is ok. Like talking to brick walls. Probabl, especially that I'm female - probably thinking I know nothing. I wonder what people think circuit breakers are for? Unbelievable.

A couple of questions to clarify a: Why are you staying there so long and how long has it been, considering you have your own caravan park.
b: If you are using your own washing machine in you own van, are you using their power to do so?

Grubby , it should be 15 amps per site not , 15 amps per powerhead divided by two
Furthermore its not too often a van will trip 15 amps out on the RCD , so whats ur mate next door running if ur using next to nothing .
Besides all that more than likely ur paying the daily tariff including power and water , so they are financially covered anyway.
Its more likely that they dont like coming out of the office to fix up their inadequate plant .
I came for a week (to this park - not the area), ended up staying 3 - then realised the Finke dessert race was on so decided to stay for that. So I think it's 6 weeks I've been here. On a powered site (Paying for). I really wish I'd just free camped on the track now - although I woulda been getting all the dust off the van as well as the tug.
I won't be going back to my own anytime soon as I'm travelling. Maybe in a year or two - boyfriend got it.
yes I use the power to wash with (although I'm sparing with the washing atm as there's something wrong with my washing machine). The power would be the same and water whether I used theirs or not - it's just I'm not putting 5 bucks in to their machine.
Boofing means tripping the power out.

I know exactly what it should be, and I'm seething that I kept quiet about the tripping In the first place - but as I said it doesn't affect me as I'm NOT using too much 240v - despite them thinking I am by default of owning a 24.5ft van.
Hes running everything (fridge etc) as well as electric heater, kettle and TV etc on 240v. So he's more than taking the 15amp, plus there was no problem before he came.
Yes...my point....I AM paying for a powered site - so why should I have to go off to another site and pay for power? If they were cheaper I'd be happy to - but I don't know anyways - and like I said am leaving Thursday and am not a permanent - nor have I seen anything or been told that after a certain duration you become "permanent rates".
Shes also weird on water.....I was changing my anode the other day and she was concerned with me flushing the system.
Yes....last night it tripped their house as well......so they just need to get a sparky in and get it set up properly.
Oh and it's almost like despite paying for power you're told not to use electric items lol.....like last night she was trying to tell me not to use my hot plate and that I could use my gas heater instead of my other one.....lol....yeah if I wasn't paying for power.

I think I've covered most of these in the subsequent posts - but it wasn't as busy when I was first here - and the tripping only started when he got here a week and a half ago. I think from when she saw me first (two weeks ago) she had it in her mind a big van must be using power - I must get her to pay for it on top of the fees. So it was only the second last time I paid she'd said about this having to pay extra for power and since then this guy came and started Knocking the power out 3 times a night.
I only decided to stay for the finke - and all the parks were full and I didn't know the state of the trackside free camping. I will know next time however and I'll only ever call into the Showgrounds for a night or so to top up batteries and water. If there is a next time - the town driving me mad by now too....
They're either really dumb or they're doing exactly as they please, seeing as they know the rules now.
No way they'd be hooking my van up like that.
But then I know and respect the basics of why we have 15amp and the regulations that adhere to it.
