Thank you, info Centre didn't mention this at all, just service stations.

Actually there's a dump point just around the corner too . Not that I particularly lIke filling fresh water from them ? From memory the fresh water and dump point is a few car lengths from each other in this case .
This is a free public dump point located in Commonage Road. Turn west off the Stuart Highway 1 kilometre south of the Bradshaw Drive/Gap Road roundabout onto Commonage Road. The dump point is on the left hand side of the road before the tip and near the Waste Transfer Station

I've often thought how strange it is that in campgrounds we brush our teeth from a tap just a metre or so from the toilets, then again we do it at home as well.

I asked about fresh water at the council office in Alice Springs and was told that they do not
give fresh water to travellers. The only time in 6 years on the road that this has happened.
We got as much fresh water as we wanted from a Caltex servo there.
The manager said that the water was from a council tap.

That's so interesting re Caltex. The information centre said any service station EXCEPT Caltex, maybe that's why (because it is a council tap!!!!!)
Cheers Jenny

Check WikiCamps ., The water supply above is away from dump point . From memory the other side of drive way . It's well used as it's used to fill tankers etc . Yes some people don't use personal hygiene very well . I use hand steriliser and gloves . Wash black water pipes with similar solution before storing . In sealed bag in seperate compartment so there's no way of contamination ! Infact I put in with spare engine oil etc . Opposite side to fresh water. I'm ok after the smell has gone . It seems to cling to you for some reason ? Lol

As far as I know, all mains tap water in reasonable sized towns is drinkable as far as your health goes. Most times. Did get Hep A at Moree about 20 years ago but it was a case of not reading all the signs in town that the local water supply had been contaminated by dead stock as a result of fires in the catchment areas. If I'd boiled it first I'd have been OK. Taste is a different story. Have a slab of ALDI/Coles/BigW bottles on board just in case.

Perhaps stay in a caravan park for a night or two, do washing etc. and fill tanks there.
That way you know the water will be safe and the tap as clean as you will find.

Filling up with fresh water (potable) in Alice springs is not a problem.

Pretty sure last time I looked at the dump point it said 'non potable'.
Just cruise into the Showgrounds - just be out before 6pm (gates lock).
