On a trip the van normally weighs between 2600kg and 2700kg loaded with a 260kg ball weight (tanks empty). I use a WDH with rear air bags in the coils to stiffen the suspension, the Sports handles the weight pretty well especially with the 8 speed transmision but is a bit thirsty and has a small fuel tank which gives it a limited range between fills (350 - 400kms). I posted this because plenty of people have been asking me lately about the Sport as a tow vehicle particuarly some of the full size Pajero owners.
Cheers BB

Hi,
Happy to read about your Sport & it's capacity in towing.
I have had one overseas for 2 years now & also brought same car/colour in Australia in May.
A few lady friends said only a man would do that...haha
I plan to settle back in Oz & buy another van, maybea smaller semi off road so weight should not be an issue hopefully.
Thanks for putting your post up, it helps everyone who cares to read.
Cheers,
Lob

Hi Lobbie, I posted that review nearly 12 months ago since then I have been out of the country for 9 months. I sold the Sport as it seemed pointless leaving it sitting in the garage doing nothing. I picked up my new one yesterday the day after we got home this time I have opted for something that won't have to work quite so hard pulling a 2.8t load and also has a decent size fuel tank which will give me more than a 350km range. In my opinion the Sport (called the Montero overseas) would be an ideal tug for vans closer to 2T loaded rather than 3T it's pretty much reaching it's limit at 2.5T.
Cheers
