heading north and looking for a nice place to spend a week or two at between bowen and Hervey Bay . Looking at Kinka Beach area as the park sounds nice , they aren't booked out yet which sounds promising but just wondering about that area . We aren't people to sit around a lot but enjoy fishing and walking and happy to do day drives visiting the surrounding area. Any comments would be appreciated about Kinka Beach and the surrounding area. Or any other recommendations greatly appreciated

I don't know where Kinka Beach is but a couple of years ago while traveling north of St Lawrence (which is in the area you mentioned) I spotted a lovely beach just off the highway so I pulled off the highway, went down to the beach to set up a camp, got out of the truck and within seconds a million sandflys attacked and believe me they attacked. I got back in the truck and every time I go past there now I just laugh.but the time I can assure you the tranquility was not as it looked. Just beware of camping in this area, if it is anywhere near Kinka Beach!!

Love Kinka Beach. Usually stay at the Island View Caravan Park. Beach right across the road.
Great park to stay at with lovely owners

Hey we lie at Yeppoon. Main town in the area.
Kinka Mossies have a reputation of carrying you off. whem missus ain't looking.
Sand flies pretty humgry too Around 4.30\5pm. when we go down for the canoes.
You coming up here stock up with a coupla pump packs of "OFF" for sand flies and
Me. I use roll on RID for mossies.
You go into Beachside park. Get a pad on road side. NOT the beach.
They'll eat you for breckie. and lunch, and tea.
Beautiful place to live though.
They only like the rich. Sweet. thick blood of Southerners.
Ours is to watery and no taste for them hey.
When I lived down in Adel. 40+ yrs ago my blood was that thick they used horse needles for mine.
Up here. cat scratches or bites me.
It don't stop running for 1\2 an hr.

We were there just before Cyclone Debbie.
A few Midgies and Mozzies but nothing that couldn't be dealt with by using
rid or off. When they did get me I use either dettol or a dab of roll on deodorant to stop the itch

We ARE in the sub Tropics here, after All.
Heaven on a stick. Shorts, sandals all yr and "Winter" ha ha
Last all of 6 and a half weeks. sometimes.
24deg. heater on. when it gets back above that again. Heater off.
Simple.
Aircond on 26\28 deg all winter.

I lived for just over two years on a private property behind the Kinka Kippa restaurant from 2012-2014, can't say I experienced any major problems with mozzies or sand flies but, as some people are magnets to the little buggers, I seem to have the opposite polarity and they rarely bothered me. I'm no fisherman but I believe there's good fishing off the causeway just north of the Island View CP and around the breakwater at Rosslyn Bay, and the Fishermans Market there is supposed to be good (if you're in Yeppoon on a Friday afternoon check in at the Visitor Information Centre and ask for Neil who knows some of the best spots). You can take day trips to Great Keppel Island from Rosslyn Bay, or head north of Yeppoon to the Byfield State Forest for a picnic. I also heard good reports about the Japanese restaurant at the Mecure resort (may have a different name now) on the way to Byfield.

Still nights with no wind can and do attract sandies for some with sensative hide :), swimming ?? Watch out for box jellyfish n may pay to wear sanshoes or such when walking in n about water. Odd bullrout occasionally do show up.
Otherwise , yes nice area to visit with good Whiting in back creeks if locals will share their knowledge. Good Bream should be starting to show up around the walls n creeks also along withBlue Salmon etc.
If Keppel Islands are open do take a Cat ride out there , beutifull clean sandy beaches to swim n enjoy.

I'm staying at 'Coolwaters Holiday Village' Kinka Beach from 29th May to 8th June, the area is great and I love the Capricorn Resort Golf Course, I will also try some fishing whilst there this year.
