Has anyone had the problem with the fridge door coming open during travel. We are towing a new 2017 Jayco Swan.
Other than the obvious,( putting a bag or the like), against the door, but this should not be necessary.

Lucky mine Vitifrigio has a travel lock.
A quick fix would be to go to a Baby Shop and get a fridge Lock designed to keep the rugrats from getting into the fridge.

Norm,
I guess the unit in the camper is the RM2350 fridge per the brochure.
I have looked at the manual for that model fridge and it does say it has a travel catch. We have a larger fridge and it also has a travel catch.
Check to see that yours has the catch and when closed that the catch does engage. If it does, then it should be enough to hold the fridge closed during travel, as ours does. We have not had the fridge in any of our vans come open in over 60000 kms of travel, including dirt roads.
If it doesn't engage. it may be that the fridge has too much food in it for the door to close properly, or the catch has not been fitted.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies. Door can be opened at any time by pulling it lightly. I can't find any safety catch other than the thumb pad catch. There must be a fault, so will call into Jayco.

Ditto to the above if it is a new caravan
A fridge inside any type travelling RV should not come open, and all of them I know of, have a travelling lock
Just double check that you do not have a travelling lock on the door
I am led to believe that if your frozen food thaws, and then refreezes, you should still throw it out
Hope that this info is useful to you

Another vote to take it back under warranty. In the mean time though, or for anyone else that might have the same problem.... Velcro strips work well. You can get a sticky back part which you can put a small piece on the side frame or cabinet and a piece on the front of the door. The locking piece between the 2 would be the non sticky type. Clark Rubber stock both and you can buy in short lengths.

A 200mm self tapper ? Dunn !! Lol
I'm sure if you look at the door hitch ? It will have or at least provision for extra lock ?
Check if it's out of adjustment ?
Yep I throw our frozen vege out when we get home from buying frozen food too !!

I had ONE come open 30odd yrs ago.
Had a container of tinned beetroot in there (plastic)
I eat the stuff like lollies. Yummmm.
Had to relay lino over floor. That stuff does NOT come out.
Hasp and staple on every fridge apart from my Waeco's ever since.
It only happens once, believe me.

Hi,
We solved the same problem with our Dometic RM2350 by puting a $1 coin behind the thumb pad catch & remove it when we have to open the fridge - forces the catch to engage better.
Has worked for us for over 4 years.

Thank you to everyone. There is no door lock. Van going to Jayco Tuesday and will be fixed or adjusted at least. I do like the coin idea and thought of using a paddle pop stick, but didn't want to force it until Jayco have tried to fix it.

We are still waiting for you to tell us what model fridge you have. Dometic fridges have different locking methods. Unless we know which one you have then we can not tell you how to fix it.

Never seen a caravan fridge without a door lock. They ALL have them.
Not being rude but maybe in al the excitement you just didn't pay enough attention during that part of the handover or the salesman forgot to give you proper instructions.
If the fridge does indeed NOT have a lock then it must be returned forthwith as a manufacturing fault. The Consumer Protection laws are on your side in this regard. It is called "Fitness for Purpose".

Norm, the only trouble we had (once) with the fridge in our Eagle was due to not locking it with the built-in latch. And that went over many rough & questionable roads!
Your fridge would be the same - a Dometic 90L RM2350 - used in a lot of campers & smaller vans.

Hi Warren Pat,
Yes it's the same fridge as yours. There is only the thumb catch that I'm aware of and even when you push it down, it only just connects with the clip on top of the door. As earlier, will just put some gear in front of it until we get to Jayco Tuesday. Thanks

we have the RM2453. it just has a release handle to open the door. If you push the door closed you hear that click into place, the door is then secured properly and will not open. Many do not push the door properly closed. From the numbering I suspect your fridge may be the 90 litre model in the range. Ours is the 120 litre model.
