As a self funded retiree the influence on my own budget was zero (nothing good nothing bad). The only concern I have is the levee that they put on the banks which could impact on shareholders and their returns - that includes retirees who are relying on their investments.

Some of us oldies got a bit of a win
Snip Older people can claim a few small wins in the budget. If you lost your pensioner concession card as a result of the assets test change earlier this year, you'll now have the benefit restored. Older Australians will get a one-off $75 power rebate. And those over the age of 65 who downsize their home can pour up to $300,000 of the proceeds into their super fund. This is only expected to help up to 10,000 people a year. Unsnip
I shall go home now, in case I start talking politicians, speak

G'day Jay&Dee. Without going into forbidden territory I will answer your legitimate question. it has absolutely no effect on my personal budget.
Cheers.

Anyone who pays tax will have to pay an extra 0.5% Medicare levy. For someone earning $50,000 that is an extra $250.
My guess is that most self funded retirees earn at least that amount.
Another smoke and mirrors budget.
Good Luck.

My opinion is that anyone with an income exceeding $100,000 (including me) should not receive Medicare benefits, it should be purely for low income earners and the unemployed, it also should be restricted to a limit of 10 doctors visitations per annum unless suffering from a serious injury or under specialist direction. Medicare would then not need a levy at all.

Perhaps the USA model (whatever it might turn out to be) might be more satisfactory then.
I'm all for universal basic health care funded by a levy. Just as Bill Hayden envisaged. As you would expect in a first world country.

Hi Doug,
I am hoping that this thread does not become to political and therefore have the gong come down on it.
I or should I say we believe that the budget will have nil or very little affect on our lifestyle.
We like most people re balance our household budget re the income and expenses, around July each year.
At our age, life is pretty good, and we hope to enjoy same for years to come.
Safe travels to all

No impact at all really. We've owned our home adjacent to Port Phillip Bay since the 70's, it's now worth way over a million dollars, the government want us to downsize & developers want to buy our property & knock it down to make way for trendy two storey townhouses . FAT CHANCE!
We are enjoying traveling for 6 months per year in total with our 16ft caravan & old fashioned 4x4 ute. Great arriving home in between trips though. Couldn't stand living on the road with no home base.
Bugger the budget!

it will cost me money ass it will most wage earners with a super account. I really cant understand how the treasurer who is obviously an intelligent man. can talk about putting a levy on banks as if they were they were owned buy the ogre on the hill. when he knows full well they are largely owned by super funds and private investors.
Ok!!!
